Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted) Empty Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted)

Post by Anita Moore Wed Apr 16, 2014 2:20 pm

Anita walked carefully down the side of the street as she made her way back to her home. She hoped that she would be able to get inside before it started to snow again. But as she passed a store, something caught her eye in the window. She thought that the bauble would be perfect for her Christmas tree. She slipped inside the store and picked up the item before taking it to the counter and handing over the money.

The brown paper bag was in her hand as she left, and after only a few steps she felt the snow begin to fall. Damn, she thought as she placed the bag inside of her coat and began to walk a little faster. Unfortunately that meant that she wasn't able to watch her step quite so well, and she struggled to get decent footing.

Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted) Empty Re: Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted)

Post by Guest Wed Apr 16, 2014 2:33 pm

Slipping out of the craft shop of Ted liked to frequent, he slipped the small brown parcle of new pens into the inner pocket of his pea-coat and pulled the collar up to shield his neck from the gently falling snow. Looking around, he smiled at all the holiday decor being set up in the shop windows and remembered that he hadn't set up anything at home. Tonks was spending the holiday with her mother, so, he was on his own this year. Resolved to at least put up a tree when he got home, Ted headed in that direction.

As he walked, his black leather boots giving him excellent footing on the slicking walks, his eyes fell on a blonde just ahead slipping on the newly forming ice. Jogging to her and sliding to a stop, his strong arms caught her before she could fall. "Are you alright?" Ted asked, his blue eyes looking down at her. She was striking, he found, and Ted was suddenly at a loss for words.

Anita closed her eyes tightly, because the sight of ice coming closer and closer to one's face was never a good one. But thankfully, she didn't fall. Instead she felt a set of surprisingly warm and sturdy arms steady her. "I'm okay," she woman said, brushing her hair from her face, "Damned ice!" She stood up straighter and smiled warmly at the man who had prevented her from falling. "Thank you," she said, truly meaning it.

Letting the woman go after feeling that she had a sure footing, Ted chuckled lightly. "You're welcome. It's certainly slicked up quickly," he said with his crooked smile. Putting his hands in his pockets, he tipped his head towards the walk she appeared to be going to travel. "Doesn't look much better that way. If you like, I could escort you wherever you're off to. Make sure you don't take a good tumble next time," he offered boldly with a shrug. He didn't know what to expect, but he figured that he'd at least offer, being the gentleman he was.

"It has!" Anita agreed, taking a look at the roadside and frowned. She could see the glint of freshly made ice all the way down the road. This was going to be a fun walk! Wait.. he was offering to walk her home? She almost let out an audible sigh of relief, and her face broke out into another smile, "You wouldn't mind?" It was going to be trouble getting down the road in the heeled boots that she'd stupidly thought would be a good idea. And some company would be nice, as well. "I'm heading home. It's not exactly a short walk.."

"Don't mind at all," Ted said his smile brightening and offered her his arm. He was pleased that she had accepted his offer to walk her. Nasty falls could happen on ice like this, and as a Protector, he felt it was right to help her. "So, taking the long way home? Not just apparating?" he asked curiously. "Can't say I blame you. Walks are nice, no matter where you're going. I'm Ted, by the way. Ted Tonks," he added, glancing at her before she lead the way to her home.

Anita took his arm gratefully, wishing that she had worn more appropriate shoes. It seemed that the man had thought more logically than she had as he didn't seem to be having any troubles at all in walking. Anita blushed lightly as he brought up the fact that she was not apparating. "I rather enjoy the walk," she said, chewing her lip, "I'm also not a fan of feeling sick from apparating. If I can avoid it, I do." She held out her outside hand to shake after he said his name, "I'm Anita. It's nice to meet you, Ted."

Ted took her hand in his in a friendly shake, "Pleasure." Chuckling, he stuck his outside hand in his coat pocket, keeping the arm her took bent for greater support. The color in her cheeks flattered her, he found, and brought a small smile to his lips. "I don't know anyone who likes that feeling following apparation. I've gotten used to it, but, like you, I enjoy walking when I can," he told her as they walked. Being both Auror and Protector lent themselves to using apparation quite frequently, so, really, whenever he could, Ted walked. Hearing her heeled boots click as they walked, he asked, a slight tease in his voice, "Weren't expecting the weather to turn?" The snow was a surprise, and while his shoe choice might have been seen as being prepared for the weather, he wore hit boots more out of habit and his training.

I’m always lucky if I don’t throw up. My mother used to tell me that she’d felt the same way and that was why we always flooed rather than side-along.” Looking down at her shoes, she nodded, “It seemed like there would be enough time to get home before the snow began to fall. Obviously I was wrong.” Raising an eyebrow slightly, she looked at Ted and smiled, “Where were you heading anyway? I’m sure that you didn’t come all the way here just to help me home. I hope that I’m not keeping you from being somewhere.

Anita loved the snow. It made her think of the Christmases that she had experienced as a child. Unfortunately it was only her now, but that didn’t mean that she couldn’t still enjoy the holidays. She looked around and smiled, “Almost there.. Do you live nearby?

"Gotta love how fickle weather can be," he commented and looked down at her, returning her smile. "You're not. I was just heading home, like you. Had to pick up some new pens. My ones at home were beginning to run out," he said looking back to where they were heading. "I just happened to see you nearly eat it and couldn't let that happen. You're too pretty for a tumble like that," Ted said and as soon as the words were out of his mouth, a pink flush crept into his cheeks. Really, Ted? Smooth....

Quickly recovering, he glanced around where they were and said, "I live near-ish. But, it's really no trouble... More walking, right?" The area she lived in was really quite lovely, especially with the snow blanketing everything. Memories of Christmases passed flooded his mind and, in a way, made him wish that things had turned out different with his family. But, he was making due with how things were now, and really, they weren't that bad. "Which house is yours?" he asked as he eyed all the different houses in the area, all of which were quite lovely.

Though she was sure that he was being slightly sarcastic, she actually agreed. “Where is the fun in knowing what will happen all the time?” Anita wiped at her cheek as she felt a snow flake land on her face. But of course, by the time she managed to reach it, it was just water. She looked at him and smiled, “So you write a lot? Or just have misbehaving pens?” When he mentioned about her potential fall, she bit her lip and her smile grew. She couldn’t help but admire the way his face flushed. “Well, thank you.

Anita still felt a bit bad, but she knew she’d be feeling worse if she’d managed to fall down. She looked around as they neared her home, and she nodded, “That one.” She nodded toward a cream house with brown trim. She adored her home, as it had been the only thing that she had left of her family. The warmth inside would definitely add to the love that she had for her house once she got inside. Anita removed the key from her coat pocket and looked at it for a moment before looking at Ted, “Would you like to come in? I can make you a tea or something? It’s the least I can offer for the extra walking I’ve caused you.

Her comment about knowing the weather, or everything, all the time made Ted chuckle. "True. No sense in knowing it all. Takes away the adventure of the unknown..." he said. Looking up to the white sky, Ted guessed that the snow would continue to fall, and likely get heavier and heavier as the night progressed, which was fine by him. It was the holidays, and what fun were they without snow? Glancing at Anita as she brushed the melted snow from her cheek, his blue eyes took in her striking features once more. "Not exactly," he answered her, "I draw. Kind of a hobby I've been doing since I was little. Which tends to lead to misbehaving pens from time to time." Looking towards the houses, he felt the flush fade from his cheeks and laughed lightly, "You're welcome."

As she motioned towards a cream house with brown trim, Ted commented, "It's lovely." It was, too. With the snow falling on it the way it was, Ted was reminded slightly of the home he grew up in before moving with his sister to the Czech republic to stay with her through his studies at Hogwarts. Walking her to the front door, he released her hand, slipping his chilled hand into his pocket. Seeing her hesitate to unlock her door, Ted lowered his eyes to her wondering why. "Sure. Tea sounds lovely. And, Anita," he said with a smile, putting a hand on her shoulder, "It really is no trouble." Pausing, his eyes finding hers, he blinked looking away and dropping his hand, putting it back in his pocket.

"I love to draw! It's a pity that I'm no good at it." Anita smiled as he accepted her invitation, glad that she could repay him in some way. It was rare these days, that someone would help a complete stranger. She looked down at his hand before nodding. The woman looked around to make sure that they hadn’t been followed, as was habit since her childhood, before turning around and placing the key in the lock. She opened the door and entered the house, holding the door open for Ted to enter.

Her house was neat and warm, having had the fire lit before she even left had ensured that the cold remained outside. Anita removed her coat and placed the brown paper bag on the entry table, before moving further into the home. It wasn’t huge, but it was pleasant enough especially since it was only her. She went over to the counter and with a wave of her wand lit the stove to boil the water. “I’m a bit of a strange one, I’ve been told. I tend to do things in a mixture of magical and muggle ways.” That was what she was, after all. A combination of muggle and wizard.

Please sit if you’d like,” she said, motioning with her hand toward the dark red couches that sat in front of a television unit and coffee table.

"Just takes practice," Ted said with a wink, and dropped his hand as she looked around, checking for safety. Ted's eyes scanned the area as hers did, not out of habit, but because she did. He didn't often find people that simply looked to be safe, not recently anyways.

Stepping into her home, he was surprised to find the chill was contained to ourside since the inside was very warm and welcoming. Following her further in, Ted removed his jacket and draped it over his arm. Anita's home was charming, homing, welcoming... Everything that made a home a home. Stopping in the entry to the kitchen, he watched as she readied the kettle for tea. "I don't find it strange at all. I do the same.... Often...." he said with a smile. Growing up in a Muggle home, Ted didn't even start to live with magic until he was 11. Even though he moved to live with his sister, and thus used magic often, there were habits of his that would always stay non-magical.

Looking to where she pointed, he tipped his head to her before moving into the sitting room. Placing his jacket over the back of the sofa, Ted sat to wait. Noticing her television he chuckled. "Not many wizards have one of these," he said, thinking about how few he had actually seen in all of his friends' homes.

Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted) Empty Re: Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted)

Post by Anita Moore Tue Apr 22, 2014 8:47 am

The woman wanted to ask about the possibility of someday seeing some of his work, but she didn’t want to seem pushy. It wasn’t in her nature to be so bold, and it definitely wasn’t in her nature to put someone on the spot in having to say no. She didn’t miss that Ted’s eyes also checked around them, and she wondered why that was. Again, she wasn’t going to ask.

She turned her head to look at him as he said that he also used muggle methods. He was an interesting man, she thought. Not only did he help her, a complete stranger, on the street but he also accepted an invitation into that stranger’s home. Anita stood still for a few moments, as her mind wandered. Maybe he was just naive? Or perhaps she was over cautious. There was also the possibility that he knew that he’d be able to overpower her if she attacked him. What if he attacked her? She shook her head to stop herself from thinking too much. The woman had been the same way since the death of her family. For some time she was at risk from both sides, but now that the war was passed she could live an almost-normal life. Unfortunately, old habits die hard.

Anita quickly busied herself with the tea, making up a tray before placing it on the coffee table. She laughed lightly and shook her head, “I haven’t met many who do, either. It’s just one of those things that I just couldn’t go without. When I started school, I always wondered what on earth wizards do in their spare time. I also like to keep up to date with the muggle news.

Sitting on the edge of the sofa, Ted rested his elbows on his knees, leaning forward. Scanning the room, he noticed several pictures scattered thoughout of different people. Getting up, he moved to look at them, clasping his hand behind his back as he looked. These must be her family... Thinking about how she acted outside, he wondered if something big had happened recently to make her so cautious. Sure the war happend, but that was long ago... From what he could see, she had a nice family. Thinking it over in his well trained mind, he reasoned that is was something...

Hearing her come into the sitting room, he turned, the light of the fire catching on the silver Auror's badge on his belt, as she set the tray on the coffee table. "I have one, too. Once I got a place of my own, I found it comforting to have a little something from my past there. Even if I hardly ever turn it on," Ted said with a grin. Taking his seat on the sofa as before, he added nodding his head towards the pictures, "You have a wonderful family."

Anita was a very observant witch. She had to be, otherwise she'd have probably already been dead. As the light from the fireplace caught something, and caused it to glint, it drew her gaze as well. She recognised the badge instantly, though she had not seen one in a very long time. She felt the tightness in her shoulders ease a bit, and she smiled, "You're an Auror?" Perhaps that was why he had helped her so willingly? She remembered the only other Auror that she'd known. Her father. He'd always been willing to help anybody.

"Oh, yeah! My father tried his best to keep the 'scary muggle crap' from our home, but my mother would have nothing of it." Anita grinned, although she had always known about the magical word, her mother had been a muggle. Her father had fallen in love in his travels and returned home with a pregnant wife, much to his parent's dismay. She blinked away the traces of moisture that she felt appearing in her eyes, wishing that she would stop thinking about them. She'd managed it for a long time, but all of a sudden it was like all of the memories were fresh in her mind. It was probably because she'd hardly spoken to anybody on any level other than professional in a very long time.

The woman's gaze quickly returned to him and then the picture on the wall of her mother, father, brother and herself. She nodded and smiled again, though it held a sad tone to it, "Yes, they were amazing." She rarely spoke about her family, and usually didn't have to. But for some reason she didn't mind talking now. "This was our family home," she added.

Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted) Empty Re: Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted)

Post by Guest Tue Apr 22, 2014 11:34 am

Glancing down at his belt, Ted shook his head with a smile and chuckle. He had forgotten that he had just gotten off shift when he stopped by the craft shop, and, as a result, his badge was still on him. "That I am," he answered, raising his blue eyes to her. While his badge was something that many witches and wizards knew, she picked up on which department he worked in right off. Ted reasoned that she must has seen a badge like this quite often to be able to do such a thing without thinking.

Pouring a cup of tea, Ted listened as she spoke of her father and his actions when it came to Muggle items. "Forgive me for asking, Anita, but your mother... Was she a Muggle, herself?" he asked sincerely. To Ted, blood didn't matter. He had no room to talk even if it did, but how she was describing her family, it could either be her mother was fond of Muggle things, or she was one. As she spoke of her family, Ted noticed her eyes filling with tears. Something had happened... I'm sure of it now...

Hearing her tone change as she looked at a family picture on the wall, Ted had the confirmation he needed to know what had happened. "Anita.... I'm sorry...." he said, watching her carefully. Looking around him at the home that she and her family had lived in together, he smiled bringing his focus back to her. "It's a good home. Full of memories, and that's what matters. So, they aren't really gone..." Ted offered, trying to lift her spirits. "The war?" he asked. He didn't want to prod or invade her privacy, but he asked anyways. She seemed to not have spoken on the subject in a long time, and, while he was all but a stranger to her, he wanted to help. And, if listening was what she needed, then he would.

So was my dad.” Anita tilted her head slightly and bit her lip. She wondered why he asked, but figured that there was no harm in answering. She’d already shared enough for him to use against her if he so desired anyway. “It’s okay. Yes, she was a muggle. My father’s parents were extremely surprised when he bought home not only a pregnant woman, but a pregnant muggle. He hadn’t even shared his wizard status with her until my brother’s first signs of magic.” She laughed lightly, remembering when she was told the stories of their early childhood.

It’s okay,” she responded. She’d never actually spoken about what had happened to her family, and she didn’t want to seem like a pile of sap to a bloody Auror. She nodded, “Yes, that is why I can’t bring myself to move. Sometimes I forget that they aren’t here as childish as that sounds.” 'The war?' Anita nodded, as she returned the to couch, where she sat and picked up her tea cup.

I don’t know if you ever heard of Ernest Moore? He was a Death Eater in the war. After some time though, he changed his mind. But they don’t like that much, do they?” She didn’t know if she should share such things with a stranger, but she had already started talking and it was somehow easing the knot in her stomach. “Soon enough, they came for him. Like nothing, they killed him. It was hard enough dealing with the death of my brother, but they weren’t done. They wanted us all dead. But I was back at school by then, so it was just my mother and father. I know that my dad would have been so mad. He died outside of his home in his pajamas, rather than in a battle.” Her voice cracked, but she refused to cry again, “My mother was defenseless against them after that. She couldn’t fight back, not like they could. Then there was me, tucked safely in my bed in the Gryffindor tower.

She took a mouthful of her tea before looking at him with a small smile. “How rude of me. Just pouring out my ‘troubled past’ to pretty much a complete stranger.

Ted wondered if he had known Anita's father since he was an Auror, too, but figured he did as he had never seen pictures of anyone that looked like her from any of the older Aurors he worked with. Seeing her nervousness over his question of whether or not there were Muggles in her family, Ted was pleased that she trusted him enough to answer him. "Bet that was quite a shock to your mother finding out that there was magic in the man she loved and her two children," he said lightly. Taking a sip of tea, he added, resting an ankle on his knee, "Both my parents were Muggles. You can only imagine the shock when they found out that my older sister was a witch and then their son. Granted, she was the one that tended to show the signs before her letter arrived. If I recall what our mother used to say, there really wasn't any signal that I was a wizard until Hogwarts sent my letter."

"I was the same way," he offered when he heard why she still lived in this home, even though her family was gone. "I moved in with my sister when I started school, but a part of me wanted to stay with our parents. When I graduated from The Academy, I told myself that I wanted a home near them. So, I estabilished one. They never lived in it with me, but some of their things are there. That makes them live there, too," he said with a soft smile. Ted couldn't blame her for wanting to stay where her family had been. It was only natural to want to hold on to what memories she had.

Her appology made Ted shake his head slightly and wave it away. "No, I'm sorry for bringing it up. I remember reading about an Ernest Moore in my studies, but I never knew him," Ted said running a hand through his dark hair at the memories of the war and the overall pointlessness of it. "Death Eaters are particular, and, to them, once a side is chosen, that's it. I commend your brother for trying to get out, and I am sorry that his change of heart brought such sadness to you and your family..." he told her, swallowing past the pain that was forming in his chest as he thought about all the ones he had lost in the war. What had brought him to her? Of all the people in the world for him to stumble into... "And, Anita, no need to worry about spilling troubles to me. Everyone carries them, and sometimes you just find the right person to share them with," he said with a wink after a moment.

Anita nodded, a smile on her lips. “It definitely was, I would think. We were surprised as well, but it was hard to keep a secret when two children started moving objects without touching them during their temper tantrums.” She crossed one leg over the other and placed her tea cup down. So he’s a muggleborn, she thought. For some reason she was really interested in learning about him, and it seemed that he wanted to share. “Oh, wow! I’ve never heard of that before. Two magical children born of two muggles. Imagine that! Having both of your children go off into a world that you have no access to, or knowledge of.

The woman listened to him speak, various questions popping into her head. She bit them down though, until he was finished talking at least. It was interesting for her to hear about another person’s life. She had no real friends, and because she’d never been able to be open with them they hadn’t been with her either. It was strange, she thought, that it was an almost-stranger who had manage to get her to talk even though he’d hardly even tried. “Where are your parents now?” She asked quietly, a small smile on her face.

It’s alright. I am surprised at how easy it has been to talk to you,” she said, her tone light again. She glanced at Ted. Of course he knew about the war and Death Eaters, he was an Auror. He was probably even there. What was surprising though, was that he seemed to genuinely care. “They are. It’s silliness, I think. What is the point of killing people? Even if I agreed with their ideals, I don’t see the point in killing the people that they view ‘inferior’. Without those people, then they wouldn’t be ‘superior’. No sense to their madness at all.” Anita chewed her lower lip and smiled again, “It’s okay. I’m far from the only person who lost people to the war, and I definitely didn’t lose the most.

Anita took a sip of the hot liquid, allowing the warmth to calm her. She looked at him, surprised a little by his words. It was just what she’d been thinking. She nodded slowly, a smile forming on her lips, “I suppose you’re right.

Taking a drink, Ted nodded and chuckled at her comment about two children and the effects of their tantrums on the things around them as well as the children that had access to a world that their parents did not. "It certainly was interesting when Alchemy's letter arrived. Then while my parents knew that since once child was like this maybe the other would be to, they worried. Well, my mother worried. When my letter arrived, it was bittersweet for them since both children would go off into this world of magic, while they stayed behind," he told her smiling all the while, "Eventually they got used to it, though."

Her question about his parents made his smile fade and his eyes drop to the cup he held. "They're gone. Add them to the list of casualties of the war...." he said with a shrug. It pained him to think about the loss of them, but he had accepted it. With war comes loss, and he was no exception to that. "But, at least their end was swift..." he added, a small flicker of a smile touching his features. That was the only thing that helped to make their death's alright with Ted: they didn't suffer much. It still bothered him that being what he was and trained as he was, he still lost them. But so many of his friends trained in the same ways as him lost loved ones, too.

"I feel the same. I don't often just open up to people I just meet, but you're different..." Ted offered, his smile returning. He was surprised at the ease that he was opening up to her, as well. He was always a gentleman and one to talk should someone talk to him, but this conversation, while new, felt like one you would have with old friends as you caught up over tea. Raising his cup, he drank, "I couldn't agree with you more there, Anita. But, I try not to reason out their motives, if I can help it. Pretty soon, you've just come full circle after trying to riddle it all out."

Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted) Empty Re: Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted)

Anita wondered what it would have been like for his parents. She had grown up, for as long as she could remember, knowing about magic. Her parents helped her learn in their home, and were able to visit her in Hogsmeade on out weekends. The woman couldn’t help but feel bad for Ted’s parents, though she would assume that he fitted well in the wizarding world. It was not uncommon for muggleborns who didn’t like it to take on muggle lives and pretend that their school years never happened. Since Ted had taken on a job at the Ministry, perhaps his transition hadn’t been so bad.

Were they supportive of your magic? Or jealous? My mother used to say that she was jealous because she was the only one of us without it. But she loved us all the same,” Anita said, her mind taking her back to when her mother was still around. She missed them, but only rarely did she think of them now. It had been some years, and it didn’t help to bring up experiences that one has yet to truly deal with. She frowned at his answer to her question and wasn’t sure what to say. “I’m sorry that you lost your parents as well, Ted,” she said honestly, a little annoyed with herself for telling him all about her losses when he’d lost as well. “What of Alchemy? Is she alright?” Anita asked, though she knew that it was none of her business.

Her hands held her cup firmly and she smiled again, hoping that at some point their conversation would lighten up before he left. “Oh, I know. It’s like you just keep returning to how pointless it all is, and no matter how obvious it may be it doesn’t stop anything.” She wondered for a moment if they would actually ever speak to one another again. Anita frowned, but quickly replaced it with a smile. “I forgot that you are a stranger,” she said, a light laugh leaving her lips.

Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted) Empty Re: Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted)

Ted pondered Anita's question about how his parents might have felt about him and his sister being magical while they were not. Then with a smile her answered, "They were actually very supportive to us both. They said that they always knew we were different. Guess they justs didn't know how... Then the letters showed up and they finally had their answer." Shrugging he added, "Not sure that they were jealous as neither one of them were like we were. Just happy. Having a wtich and wizard for children didn't phase them at all. Like your mother, they loved us both very much." Ted had heard about parents being envious of their magical children when they were not. Several of his friends growing up had that as an experience. But Ted and Alchemy were lucky to not have had that experience.

Taking a drink from his cup, he waved her appology away at bringing up his parents. "It's alright. It's alright. That's part of war," he said with a shrug. "Alchemy is....complicated. But, she is alive and well. And, really, that is all I can ask for. We are very close and to lose her.... Well, let's just say i'd hunt her down in the afterlife and drag her back here if I could..." he said lightly with a laugh. Remembering what it was like to have lost her, and then have her back, Ted felt bad that Anita couldn't have the same. He knew what it felt like to be the last of your family, and he didn't wish that pain on anyone....ever....

Nodding in agreement, he let out a small sigh. Death Eaters and their ideals were something he would never understand, nor did he want to. Ted couldn't believe how much they covered about one another in only a short time after meeting. It was uncanny, really! Joining her in laughing, he said, "I did, too. You don't feel like a stranger, Anita! More like, I've known you before and we've just been apart for some time." Ted suddenly looked away and chuckled to himself. "Bet that sounds rather lame..." he said scratching his eyebrow with his thumb.

"So, what do you do, Anita?" he asked, bringing his eyes up to her, shifting the topic to something much lighter, and trying to cover his slight embarassment at his former comment. True, he did feel that comfortable around her, but, he still felt odd stating it.

Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted) Empty Re: Snow Flakes Keep Falling (Ted)

Anita felt like she shouldn’t have brought up his family, but since she’d already shared her story perhaps it was okay for him to tell his. She liked to listen, but she also wasn’t a fan of prying. Rather than dwell on that, though, she returned her attention to the attractive man that was sitting on her couch. “It’s so surprising, actually. How muggles seem more open to accepting their wizard children than wizards are to accepting muggles. I had a friend who was a Squib and her family, even though they were not muggle-haters, sent her away. And yet muggleborns return to their homes in the holidays and for the most part are treated the same.” It seemed a bit off topic, but for whatever reason her tongue seemed to want to spill out whatever thoughts came to mind at the moment.

The woman smiled, “I’m glad to hear that she is alive and well.” She chewed on her lip before she could spit out the question that was on the tip of her tongue. Why are things complicated? But for some reason that seemed like it was too personal even if they’d covered almost every base conversation wise anyway.

Anita nodded her agreement, but quickly shook her head. “Oh, no! It doesn’t sound lame at all. It’s exactly what I was thinking.” She smiled and looked away, returning her gaze to him only after he changed the subject. “What do I do? Nothing interesting at all. I went to France for a while recently, and after I returned I applied everywhere for work. But no bites thus far. I’m hoping to teach at Hogwarts.

(I'm sorry it's so short!)
