Re: Charms/Transfiguration Lesson 1
Artemis shook her head whilst Ember chewed her lip, wondering if there was a question. Shaking her head, the bright lion smiled. ''No questions professor.'' She said in a sweet tone. Artemis groaned inwardly at her bright sister and in a way, was glad they were not in the same house for it would give her a constant headache.

Vixen nodded as a couple students shook their heads letting them know that there wasn't any questions. "Very well. Let's get to business then, shall we?" she said with her classic coy smile. "I'm sure you are all wondering why we would be combining Transfiguration and Charms in this one class. Would anyone like to venture a guess?" Vixen asked everyone. She wanted to see what kinds of speculations they had since nothing like this had ever been done before.

Re: Charms/Transfiguration Lesson 1
Rowan thought about the question that Professor Lestrange asked them, about why they would have the first lesson of these two classes together. A theory came to her, and she looked around to see if anyone else were going to try and answer. Not seeing any others looking as if they were going to speak, Rowan looked at her parchment and then sighed. Raising her hand, her heart started to race slightly when Professor Lestrange nodded, giving her permission to sleep. "Did you combine them because of the close link that Charms and Transfiguration have to one another? To help us see the difference?" she asked in answer.

Briana grinned as the young Ravenclaw dared to answer Vixen's question. "Very good, Miss Avery. Yes, you are correct. Charms and Transfiguration are very close to one another when it comes to magic. Miss Avery, do you know about the difference between them? Would you care to tell us?" she asked the young Ravenclaw.

Re: Charms/Transfiguration Lesson 1
Rowan took a deep breath and thought about how best to explain the difference. Then she remembered what she had read in one of her books before class. "A charm is a spell that adds something to a creature or object. It focuses on what the object or creature does. Transfiguration spells focus on what the object or creature is," she said with a small smile when she finished her explanation.

Vixen looked at Briana and smiled her coy smile at the Ravenclaw's answer. "Excellent, Miss Avery! 10 points to Ravenclaw for daring to answer the first question and answering the next," Briana said, pleased that someone took a shot at answering a question that might not have been obvious. Picking up her cup of tea, she took a drink and looked to Vixen to take the next part of the lesson. "It is important to remember what Miss Avery has told us. A charm focuses on what is being done, while transfiguration focuses on what the object is. Keeping that in mind, see what you make of this," Vixen said as she drew her wand, as did Briana, and held a white peacock feather up for the class to see. Without speaking, both professors cast their own spell on the pure white feather. Before the students' eyes, the once white feather turned a dark blue and began to float in the air on its own. "Now, two spells are at work here. One charm and one transfiguration spell. Can anyone tell us which is which?" Vixen proposed to the class.

Based off of what Rowan had explained, Nira was pretty sure she had it figured out. She raised her hand hoping to get picked.

Briana waited for any hands to go up and when she spotted a young Hufflepuff raise her hand, she smiled and nodded, "Yes, Miss Abyan?"

She cleared her throat and was thankful it was quiet or she wasn't sure the Professor would hear her. "The one that was used to change the feather's colour um colo - colovaria," she said stumbling a bit over her words. "Would be the transfiguration I think because it changes what it is and the levitation spell would be the charm."

Re: Charms/Transfiguration Lesson 1
"Excellent! 5 points to Hufflepuff. Yes, Miss Abyan is correct. The charm in this instance is the levitation charm or Wingardium Leviosa, making the feather float. The transfiguration spell is the color change spell, or Colovaria," Briana told the class. With a wave of her hand, the feather returned to its white form and settled gently on the podium. "Now, in your books, page 15 for charms and 26 for transfiguration, you will find these spells. For next lesson, you will be asked to use both on an object," she instructed them all.
"Before you leave, know that next lesson will be held in the Transfiguration classroom. Come prepared! Class dismissed!" Vixen announced with a smile, please with how well the first lesson had gone. She was never one for lecture lessons, but sometimes you just have to have them.

Rowan slumped in her seat slightly. Now not only did she have her potions class she needed to worry about memorizing a recipe for, she needed to learn two spells for her next lesson with Professor Yaxley and Professor Lestrange. Well, maybe she would be able to use her books for them... Packing up her things, she gave her new friends a wave and said bye to the professors before heading out of the classroom and straight to the library for some good solid study time.

Mio started to get up as well and shouldered his bag. The levitation spell didn't sound too bad, but he would still try to practice a bit before next lesson. The colouring spell, he luckily already knew, as he had used it often at home to turn his sisters' hair into different colours.
Chuckling to himself, he walked out of the room.
