What were they thinking? (Artemis, open)

Post by Astoria Greengrass on Thu Sep 17, 2015 1:18 pm

Astoria leaned backward against a tree, letting out a long breath as she did. It had been a long day- though the past few months had been tiring as well. She wished there was something she could do to get out of the school, but apparently there wasn't according to Bill Weasley. So, she was there and although she knew that it was hard for all of them, she felt like she was being targeted specifically. In fact, she knew that she was, as every time someone pushed her in the corridor or threw a hex her way, they would say a word she hated more than the rest.

Though she could handle being called a bloodtraitor with a smile, as it was something she was proud of, being called a traitor was more difficult. Astoria had never been on their side, even when she was still her father's perfect little girl. It was when she told them that earlier that afternoon when they had retaliated physically. Even if it was someone her own size, she would have had difficulty holding her own, but there had been a small group, and not all of them were her size. She'd skipped dinner because of it, not wanting anyone to see her, and had retreated to the lake instead.

It was as she closed her eyes that she heard light footsteps approaching her. Keeping her eyes closed, she smirked and said, "what now?"

Artemis wasn't doing so well. Sleep was non existent and no matter what, it was impossible to grasp the fact her dear friend, almost sister, was deceased along with brothers. The thought sent pain through her chest until she hid more behind her fighting and training to cut off said emotions. She had thankfully achieved such a thing but she was still restless in bed.

Escaping to the lake for peace and quiet, her sharp eyes landed on another friend's figure, quite shocked at her appearance but her face remained bland. ''I thought you'd be happy to see me, Astoria. I mean, I can go if it pleases you.'' She cooed, her voice rough from lack of use. Artemis did not wait for Astoria's response, already sitting on the floor with her legs tucked beneath her as if she was about to pray and the thought of doing so actually brought a small, quick curve of a smile to her lips. Praying...How useless of a thing. No one can hear the thoughts of a maddening mind. She thought to herself.

Astoria had expected the newcomer to be one of the people who had picked a fight with her earlier. Guessing they had sought her out again, she had figured she’d just sit there and let them do whatever they please. But the voice was someone she recognised, and her eyes flicked open and she sat up a little straighter. “I’m sorry,” she said, “I thought you were someone else.” Although she hadn’t wanted any of her friends to see her, Artemis was different. She wasn’t even sure if they were actually friends, but they definitely connected in a different way to the other people that she knew. If it were anyone else, she would have tried to hide the bruises that were growing on her cheek and throat, the rest covered by her clothes, but she knew that if she wanted any chance of Artemis missing them, she would need to pretend they weren’t there at all. “You trying to escape, too?” she asked, returning her housemate’s small, almost dry smile.

Artemis gave Astoria a small curve of a smile, looking almost dreamy as she sat by the lake but it soon turned stoic once more when she shifted her hair away from her face. The action revealed the scars that disfigured her face, much like Remus Lupin's own scars but they weren't ugly to Artemis. They were in fact the opposite; a sign of beauty in war. "Do not be sorry, Astoria. It is perfectly understandable." Artemis reassured, picking at the grass and finally let her sharp eyes graze upon Astoria's frame to notice that Astoria, smartly, pretended that there were no wounds. "You have a much better reason to escape than me but yes. I needed air without having someone breathe down my neck to see if I'm alright." Artemis was not fond of pity or comfort but neither was she fond of goodbyes or lack of goodbyes altogether.

"I'm glad it was you," Astoria replied, her tone still apologetic, "I don't know how the hell we are supposed to just act like everything is okay. It's not okay. This is not normal, and anyone who tries to say otherwise is deluded." She was being honest, and she hoped that Artemis understood what she was trying to say. Their school wasn't theirs anymore, even if they were being force to attend. "My father sent me a letter," she muttered icily, "I haven't read it, and I don't know if I want to." Her father was a Death Eater. He had been back when Voldemort was around before she was born and he was now. "And those spoiled little fucks won't let me be," she added, her tone harsh. Getting it out of the way made things much easier. "That's why I'm out here. I didn't realise that you were getting frustrated, too. Then again, you always manage to surprise me."

Artemis shuffled closer to her friend and pulled her legs up to her chest, closing her eyes. "As am I. I can be normal with you. Well, as normal as one can get." Her voice was muffled by her arm but was still able to be understood. "I wish to leave, to find a way out of this place and I will do it. Even if it kills me in the end but then again, it'd be much better than living like this." She was honest, she had to be and was glad she could be to Astoria, who's personality was quite like her own. "These...spoiled little fucks as you so put it are the ones who hurt you, I take it. Also, I believe you should open it. It may say something about leaving, join his side and you're allowed to leave type of thing but you could trick him. A simple plan of course. It would need quite a lot of touching up." Despite the fact they weren't fighting, Artemis' mind still worked in that mindset and she would forever try to survive. Astoria's last comment made her smirk. "It is rare I get frustrated but I was starting to feel so claustrophobic. I haven't ran in so long but I can't get into the forest...People could be watching me." Artemis, although she would never admit it, was becoming paranoid.

“That’s true,” Astoria agreed, thinking of the fact that she had been pretending that everything was alright with most of the people she knew in the school for weeks. It wasn’t that she was having any worse a time than anyone else, it was that she didn’t want to worry anyone any more than they were already worried about the situation. “This is hardly called living,” she muttered, “I’ve been avoiding my dormitory. I don’t particularly want to sleep with a group of people who would likely want to kill me.” She laughed quietly, though she didn’t exactly find it funny. She just found it hard to deal with the fact that at the same time the year before- or more like fifty one years before- she was on good terms with her housemates. Now they were mostly Death Eater kids who knew all about her alliances, and weren’t happy with them. “Yes, they are,” the brunette replied, slipping her hand into her pocket and pulling out a crumpled, folded envelope, “open it? Even if I could manage that, it couldn’t be for all of us. I wouldn’t want to leave the rest of you behind..” Tossing the letter into Artemis’ lap, she smirked and said, “you open it. I don’t think I want to actually read what it says. Can you read it to me?”
