Charms Lesson 1 (1992) Empty Charms Lesson 1 (1992)

Post by Guest Thu Apr 24, 2014 7:06 pm

Briana sat tall on her desktop, sipping a cup of tea and thinking about the coming lesson. It was a new year and, already, she was highly impressed with the new students from the sorting ceremony. Her door was open and ready for students to file in as they arrived. All that remained now was to wait for them to show up...

Rowan and William made their way to Charms after relaxing by the fire in their Common Room. Just as they were about to enter, Gus caught up with them so all three could go in at the same time. "Is it really true the professor is a vampire?" Gus asked Rowan in a hushed whisper. With a light chuckle, Rowan nodded. "It is, but she's very nice as long as whatever needs to get done, does. Besides, you already know her. She's our Head of House," she told them as she moved to her seat, giving Professor Yaxley a warm smile. William took the seat next to Rowan, while Gus froze on the spot. He hadn't put two and two together.... Giving his head a shake he took the seat in front of William and got ready for class.

---

Serena and Luna entered together as they had been exchanging stories from summer with one another outside before class. Serena found Luna rather odd, but that was alright. There was nothing wrong with being different! "Good day, Professor," Serena said happily before taking a seat towards the front. "Hello, Professor," Luna chimed as she selected a seat towards the back. Both girls pulled out parchment and quills before sitting patiently for class to start.

---

Jogging down the hall to Charms, Lara only hoped she wasn't late. One of her tutoring assignments ran long, making her run behind. Sliding to a stop just outside the classroom, she was happy to see that she wasn't the last one to arrive. Giving Professor Yaxley a wave in greeting, she took her seat near the middle and readied for class.

Anette walked towards the Charms classroom. She liked thst lesson and she was happy to be back at school. That place she could call a home and her friends were like a family. She missed most of them at summer. She walked into classtoom and greteed professor. She took a sest back at classroom this time.

Ian followed his friends into the classroom and sat down at the back of the classroom. The new year had just begun and he was already excited to see what they would learn in his second year.
Looking around, he found no sight of Sydney, but maybe it was good if they stayed apart for a while.

Neville was sitting in the front of the classroom and waited for the lesson to start. It ws his second year as well and somehow he was feeling a bit less nervous than the year before. He has managed to survive and even pass it, so he would be able to deal with this year as well.

Junis slowly walked into the room and looked around for a familiar face. Finally, she spotted a young Ravenclaw girl at the back of the classroom and walked over to her to take a seat.

Harry, Adrastos, Ricardo and Ron all arrived and sat down, Harry and Ron in the front, and Ricardo and Adrastos right behind them. Harry wanted to be close to Briana, as he felt safe around her. Shouldn't be a surprise of course, she had done more for him than his actual family had.

---

Malphas, Ares and Kain entered the classroom, and Malphas nodded at Briana, cackling on the inside as he planned to have at it with her daughter later. Kain's mind was focused on Lilith while Ares simply though of his love, his everything, Eris.

---

Atticus and Raphael came in afterwards, both imagining Celeste and Mariya by their side respectively. Sitting down next to Rowan, Gus and William, Raphael smiled at his fellow Ravens, whilst Atticus simply focused on the professor.

David walked in with Ian and sat beside the boy. he saw his look around the classroom and knew what was up "Don't worry Jade, she wouldn't dare bother you with me sitting here, she knows I won't take her shit" he soothed quietly, so not one else, save Mio and Artemis (if they were there), could hear.

he finally looked up too see the stunningly beautiful professor, and gave her a small smile. He wondered what they would be doing today, it was a new year, with new possibilities.

Briana nodded to the students as they entered, and once everyone had taken their seats, she moved her hand in a scooping fashion to close the door. "Welcome back to charms, those of you who have been, and for those who this is your first time, welcome. I'm Professor Yaxley, and Professor or Professor Yaxley are fine," she began, setting her cup down. "Now, can anyone tell me which charms might be practical for use say while on the Quidditch Pitch?" Briana asked the class at large.

Junis raised her hand when the professor asked the first question. That was a simple one as many different answeres could be correct. "The Impervius charm, Professor. It can be used to make the goggles become waterproof. That's especially useful during rain." she answered calmly.

"Thank you, Miss Prince. Yes, the Impervius Charm is a rather useful one. 5 points to Ravenclaw. Any others?" Briana asked them. When no one else offered any ideas, she was slightly shocked. "My aren't we the quiet bunch today. Very well, can anyone tell me which charm might be useful if you were to say.... fall off your broom?" she offered to the class. Glancing from face to face, she was hoping someone would offer an answer.

Harry knew this, like he did most things related to quidditch, "Bri-Professor Yaxley! The charm Arresto Momentum fits the situation you just described perfectly!" he exclaimed smiling at the woman that was more of a mother to him than his own aunt was.

"Excellent, Mr. Potter! 5 points to Gryffindor," Briana said winking at the boy at his near slip. She had given him permission to call her Briana outside of class, and seems, he had a minor lapse in remembering that it was only for outside the classroom. However, she really didn't care. "Arresto Momentum is perfect for not just Quidditch, even though it's highly useful to know for such cases as mentioned before," she said, picking up a stack of gold Galleons and tossing them into the air. With a wave of her wand and the whispered incantation, the coins all slowed to a near crawl as they landed softly on the classroom floor. "Handy to help slow the descent of something falling, as the name tells us, this spell is also relatively easy to learn. That being said, should the situation ever arise where you will need to used this spell to save a falling body, panic and fear cloud the mind making it a bit more challenging to cast. So, practice with such a useful spell might not be a bad idea," Briana instructed them.

"As I mentioned before, the simplicity of this spell is rather clear in the wand movement and the incantation. Simply give your wand a way towards your target and say the incantation: Arresto Momentum. And, that's it. Now, for the remainder of class, I'd like you each to take any one of the three items in your area of the table, either the block of wood, ball of twine, or bundle of quill feathers, to practice this charm on. Simply get whatever you choose to fall, whether it's pushing it off your table or tossing it in the air, and use this charm to slow its fall. I will be coming around to check your work and answer any questions. Please begin!" Briana instructed them and began making rounds in the room.

David nodded as she told them to begin. it was a rather useful spell indeed. Especially if he wanted to try out for the Quidditch team. odds were he would be knocked off his broom a lot. he chose to start out with ball for twine to try the spell the first time. he took it and threw it high up into the air. he then pointed his wand at it and said "Aresto Momentum!" The ball slowed, but did not stop. so it hit him in the face. he knew Mio, Ian or Artemis would laugh at him, so he growled at them "Don't say anything" he then threw the ball into the air again, pointing his wand at it, concentrating hard, and saying "Aresto Momentum!" This time the ball stopped a few inches from his face.

He smiled and switched it out for the wood. he wasn't stupid enough to through it up in the air, so he pushed it off his desk, saying again "Aresto momentum." He fell half the desk length before stopping suddenly. He smiled as his friends "your turn"

Ian chuckled and smirked at David. "Nice spell work, mate." he said laughing and then picked up a bundle of quills to throw it at Neville who was waiting to cast the spell. "Aresto Momentum!" the Gryffindor called out and pointed his wand at the approaching bundle which actually started to slow down till it dropped in his lap. "Brilliant, Neville!" Ian grined at him and then pulled out his own wand while Neville threw the bundle back at him. Quickly, he pointed his wand at it and incanted "Aresto momentum!" Unfortunately, he missed the bundle. "No!" Ian glared at the quills now lying on the ground and threw them back to Neville. "Let me try again!"
Neville shot him a smile and did as he was told. This time, Ian managed to aim correctly and the bundle slowed down like it should. "Yeah!" He high-fived Neville and they grinned at each other.

Mio had been sitting next to David and listened to the lesson move on. He wasn't really paying much attention till his friend hit himself in the face with a ball. Mio bit his lip to prevent his laughter form bursting out. His teacher would probably not appreciate it.
Picking up his own ball of twine, Mio threw rolled it over the table towards the edge and then cast the spell to slow it down till it came to a stop just before falling down from the table. It wasn't too difficult, especially as the small ball was very light and he did not need too much power to sustain the spell. Mio looked up to his friends and shot them a grin. "Well done, guys! Like that Slytherin won't stand a chance against us."

Pausing in front of a group of students, Briana watched their progress, pleased with what she saw. Some achieved the desired effect right off, while others took a time or two to master the spell that was both simple and complex at the same time. "Gentlemen, fantastic work! I'm glad to see a little team work. Keep it up! Let's see... that makes," Briana commented and paused to do a mental tally of points, "30 points to Gryffindor for you three's work, and 10 to Hufflepuff. Excellent!" Nodding to the boys, she headed off to the next set of students...

Dakota had been sitting in the back corner of the class, he was not much of a group person when it came to working in class. He sat there and watched the teacher with his smokey brown eyes. He was waiting for her to move around to him but he knew that was a while away anyway.

Looking around for anyone that wasn't partnered up yet, Quinn's bright eyes fell on a lone fellow in the back of the classroom. He didn't seem like he wanted to participate too much in the fun, but she figured why not try to get him involved. Picking up the bundle of quill feathers, Quinn made her way over to him. "We can pair up if you like," she offered softly with a smile.

His sigh before accepting her offer to pair up, made her tilt her head slightly before a sweet smile touched her features as he pulled out a chair for her. "Don't let me twist your arm or anything," she teased as she sat. "Are you familiar with this charm?" Quinn asked, setting the feathers on his table. She had practiced it before a couple of times before class when she had come across it in her book when reading, but she hadn't really mastered it yet.

Dakota sat back down and smiled at the girl, "I am not so great with charms my self but Dark arts are something different completely." He said with a half cocked smirk and leaned back in the chair, he had to admit the girl was not as bothersome as some of the other people in their class and she was rather pretty. He could work with this girl he thought.
