CoMC Lesson 1 - 1992

It was a new year, a new start, and a new CoMC lesson. As usual the clearing had its warm and cozy appearance, and Bruce stood on top of a log, looking towards the inside of the forest. If he could, he'd put a sign of 'Do not disturb' right next to him but alas, his lesson was at last here.

Now this was a class David was looking forward to. he liked the professor, and actually learned stuff in it. He wondered what sort of creatures they would encounter today. He had, of course, read his textbook already, so was confident he could gain Gryffindor some points that they were bound to loose in Potions with Snape.

"Hey Professor! Have a good summer?" He greeting his professor as he made his way into the clearing for class.

Rowan walked to Care of Magical Creatures alone. She had been in the library reading up on some things for Astronomy, and kind of lost track of time. Upon reaching the clearing, Rowan moved to where she had been commonly sitting and sat, looking forward to what this lesson would hold. "Good day, Professor," she said happily as she took out some parchment and a quill for note taking.

William, Gus, and Luna all took the walk from Ravenclaw Tower to the clearing for CoMC. Chatting all the way there about some odd creatures called Nargles, thanks to Luna, the boys wondered if that was something that Professor Carrow might be able to teach them about at some point. Gus and Luna kept talking while they took their seats, while William took the seat next to Rowan. "Professor," he said with a smile before turning to her housemate. "Hope you don't mind me sitting here," he said, giving her a playful nudge to which Rowan smiled and told him he was more than welcome to sit there.

Lara filed into her seat with several of her housemates as they discussed last year's classes, the summer, and this year's classes' potential. Her mind was ready to learn. "Good day, Professor," she said with a smile. Between this class and Defense Against the Dark Arts, Lara was excited to learn all she could since she was now involved with someone who was an Animagus and had a brother that was a Werewolf. When one of her friends nudged her to see if she was still with them, she was brought back to the present and nodded to show she knew what they were on about.

Ron yawned as he, Harry, and Serena made their way to CoMC. They had been telling Serena all about this class over lunch, and she seemed pretty excited for it. Taking their seats, Serena said brightly, "Good day, Professor!" Ron looked at Harry and gave his head a slight shake as he wondered how she could possibly be as excited for classes as she was. Tipping their heads towards Professor Carrow, both boys extended their greetings before all three Gryffindors readied for class to begin.

Adrastos walked into the clearing, wondering where Ivy was. They had been together tons of times during the summer but alas he felt like it wasn't enough. The feeling of 'love' between them was still growing, and he wanted it to be stronger and stronger, "Professor," he tipped his head at Bruce something he didn't usually do but Ivy was changing him, he was beginning to be in a better mood everyday.

Ricardo walked closely behind Adrastos, afraid of getting closer. He didn't even know if he could call Adrastos a friend, because they hadn't talked in ages even though they were from the same house. They had been so close and now Adrastos seemingly forgot about him. Looking at Bruce, he decided against greeting the professor because he simply wasn't in the mood. He sat down next to Harry, Ron and Serena, and Adrastos sat beside him, punching his long arm, "Heya mate," Moody smirked at him and Ricardo grinned widely.

Harry had been training with Oliver before he had met up with Serena and Ron, and he had to be honest, quidditch was now the best thing he had at Hogwarts other than friends. Flying liberated him from his worries, specially since this year, he had a lot of those. First Dobby appearing at his house, then him and Ron not being able to go to the platform, then the muggles seeing them flying Arthur's car. This year wasn't as eventful as his first year but it was damn close to that. "Hey Ricardo, Adrastos," he greeted the two other boys.

Kain and Raphael entered the clearing with Malphas and his crew coming up behind them. Kain was always good on Mal's list but Raphael had just been written, considering he 'got the message' and decided to date Malphas' sister. And Mal hoped he understood hurting Mariya was a death sentence. One he wouldn't get rid off.

Kain, Archard, Lucius, Mulciber and Raphael all sat down next to each other, but Malphas walked to his father, "Scram lion," he grinned at Shuter before tilting his head up to Bruce, "Father," he greeted his father respectfully.

Atticus swung his ropes across the forest, with a smile on his face. That smile now never vanished, and why? Because he had Celeste by his side. Now, he had her when he wanted, he had her every day of the week and didn't have to wait until sundays to get to spend time with her. Sliding down a branch, his cloak hid his gear, and he tipped his head at the slytherins, before shooting a distasteful look at the Ravenclaws, specially his brother whom he had yet to meet. Though Atticus wouldn't approach him, he wouldn't even care unless that whore spawn came to him.

Coming from the side of the clearing Bruce was looking to, Ares tipped his head at his adoptive father, and then turned to Malphas, trying to tackle him off the wooden branch he stood on, but Malphas simply hurled him towards the ground and pounced on him, "Play nice brother," he grinned throwing him towards the other slytherins.

Walking barefoot through the forest Mariya wore a simple black dress under her slytherin robe. As class time drew near she emerged from the forest and smiled as she saw her dad standing silently near his clearing. Walking towards him she grasped his hand and smiled then kept walking letting his hand go. Rolling her eyes at her brothers antics she took a seat besides Raphael.

Draco and Eris left the dungeons talking about the latest in potions, heading down to the class area draco chuckled as he watched Mal and Ares playing.

Chase approached the class her head down, careful to keep away from the slytherin side she walked cautiously to a lonely bench and sat down.

Emrys watched the boys rough housing and chuckled shaking her head she opened her notebook.

Ian and Neville approached the bounch of students that had already gathered and came to stand next to David. "Hello Professor." Ian greeted politely and Neville quickly nodded at the teacher, still being a bit nervous around the man.

Junis was standing a bit away from the other students, observing them calmly as she waited for the lesson to start. Over the past few years, she had always enjoyed this class. Working with creatures of all kinds interested her a lot and she was always looking forward to CoMC.

Hearing the numerous voices of students made Bruce's head begin to hurt as if someone was punting and pounding on it repetitively. Suddenly the gryffindor's voice made itself heard and he turned his head around, "Yes, thank you," he answered tiredly. Being a professor was killing him, he wanted to murder all the lions present but he couldn't. And that alone pushed him further over the edge. Hearing his son order the gryffindor to leave, Bruce hid his grin, "Malphas, go sit with the Slytherins," he told his son who complied and then turned around, "Children, this lesson will be about the Diricawl. Can anyone tell me what a Diricawl is?" he asked with a drawl.

Ricardo threw his hand into the air, "The Diricawl is a plump-bodied, fluffy-feathered flightless bird.  It originated in Mauritius. It eats various vegetation, favoring fruits, sir," he answered smiling at Harry who sat right next to him.

Sighing, Bruce nodded, "Ten points to gryffindor," he then took out a small, bent blade, boomerang like, and hurled it up into a tree. It came back to him nearly instantly, and with it, came a dead Diricawl. Hurling it to the middle of the class, he asked, "Does anyone know what the muggles called these?"

Harry's eyes fell on the dead bird and his eyes widened, "A Dodo sir. They think the Dodo's are extinct," he exclaimed with disbelief as he himself had only now found out the dodo's were actually magical.

Cracking his knuckles he nodded, "Ten points to Gryffindor," he awarded Potter, then sat on the log, "And can anyone tell me why they think these beasts are extinct?" he asked the class.

Rowan put a hand up and answered, slightly less bright than she normally did, "Muggle are unaware that the Diricawl can vanish at will. Thus, since they don't seen them anymore, they believe they have hunted them to extinction."

"Correct, ten points to Ravenclaw," he awarded Rowan and for once was able to smirk, Bright like her parents he winked at her then looked back towards the class. "Alright now we know they can disappear at will. So, they have to somehow be involved in disappearing spells correct?" he asked his teaching drive suddenly returning to him.

Adrastos threw his hand into the air, and smirked, "Their feathers are used in disappearing charms. And if the feathers are used as quills, a scroll spell's power will be enhanced," he exclaimed with a grin.

"there blood and feathers can be used for dissapearence spells and some potions" Mariya drawled clearly bored.

Bruce wanted to award his daughter points however, the gryffindor came first. "Ten points to gryffindor," he grumbled, but then his smile came up again, "Alright then, now I have a game for all of you. Around a part of this very forest, are diricawls. A lot of them. You will split up into various teams of two, and search for them. The more you catch, the more points you win," he smiled and then moved his wand, afterwards a ringing sound echoed, "GO!"

Mairya had been shrugging out of her cloak when her father spoke. Grabbing Raphael's hand she smirked "Come on" she said and took off sprinting into the woods. A few yards into the forest she lept up and grabbed a tree branch, swinging herself onto the next she got as high as she could. Creeping through the branches she spotted one of the fluffy birds and hands outstretched she pounced.

Ian grinned slightly and looked over to Mio and David, but they would probably want to work together, so he turned to Neville with a questioning look on his face. "Erm...sure." the Gryffindor agreed readily and the two of them pulled out their wands to walk into the forest on their search for the diricalws.

For a while they both went looking around, but everythime they caught sight of a bird, they vanished again, faster than they could cast a spell on them. "Damnit!" Ian cursed softly, as the next diricalw escaped them. "We'll never catch them that way..." he muttered then finally got an idea. "Okay, listen Neville. We will cast Colloshoo on the ground and then put some fruits on it. Then we just wait for the bird to come and get stuck." he explained quickly and together they cast the spell and put out the food.
Only a few seconds later, the first bird approached and reached for the fruit.

Rowan smiled slightly at not just earning earning points for her house but at the wink Professor Carrow gave her, happy that she had pleased him. Jotting down her notes, she looked up at hearing about the competiton they were about to undertake. Glancing towards the forest, her eyes narrowed as she began to think of how to catch the mysterious feathered birds. Feeling a nudge, she looked back at William. "Hey, wanna team up?" he asked her with a smile. "Sure," she said setting her things on her seat and drawing her wand. "Ready?" Rowan asked, and when he nodded, they took off into the forest.

They hadn't gotten far when William spotted one of the beasts. Tapping Rowan's shoulder, he pointed to it and signalled for her to be quiet. Creeping up behind the bird, William reached out to grab it before it noticed he was there.

"Damn....." William muttered as the Diricawl vanished and got away just as his hands nearly closed around it. "Maybe we should try this," Rowan said softly walking over to her partner. Reaching into her pocket, Rowan pulled out an apple she had been saving to eat between classes, and using her wand, cast a charm to slice it up. Motioning for William to follow her, they went looking for another bird. Before long, they found one. Rowan motioned for him to tay put as she moved towards it and crouched low. Holding out a slice of apple, she waited for the Diricawl to take notice. Slowly, cautiously, the bird hopped over to her and nibbled the apple she held out to it. As the bird busied itself with the fruit, Rowan reached out to grab it...

Looking up as many students took off to hunt for the Diricawl, Lara glanced around to see who all was left to team up with her. Spotting a blonde Gryffindor, she walked over to her, and asked, "Want to be my partner?" Serena had been taking extensive notes, which made her not notice that everyone had taken off for the game. Looking up at the question, she smiled at the Hufflepuff and nodded. The two girls set off and soon came across one of the creatures they were hunting. Lara motioned for Serena to be quiet as she tossed a couple grapes near the bird. When the Diricawl's focus was occupied with the food, Lara nodded to Serena to try and snatch it. Silently, she crept up on the bird and pounced....

"Yeah!" "Brilliant!" Neville and Ian put a leash around the bird's head and pulled it away from the clearing they were on. "Let's try it again, okay?" Ian asked excitedly and gave Neville the leash to keep hold of the animal, while he went back to cast the spell again, this time, he rushed to hide behind a tree while he waited for his prey.
"Can you see something?" Neville asked quietly, but Ian shook his head. "No...not yet, I hope we didn't chase them off..."

Like this they waited for several minutes till finally another bird approached their trap.

David looked at Mio "team?" He already knew they worked well together. "Just think of them as small ass Quaffles, and we got this in the bag." Both of them being reasonably good chasers, that statement was true. He then winked at Mio, and began the hunt for the mighty diricawls

Mio smirked at David and nodded. "Is that even a question?" he asked chuckling and followed his mate into the forest. The reached a particularly dark part where many creatures could his and Mio spotted something. "Slowly..." he muttered to David and pounced on it, tackling the thing to the ground. "Yeah!" he exclaimed and looked down to see if he really had managed to catch a Diricalw...


Azrael turned to see if anyone was left over to pair up with, even if he would rather go on his own. It couldn't be too hard to catch one of these birds, but as it was, he needed a partner. "Take the bitch over there..." Cyn drawled sounding bored with the whole game and he started to look around for the girl. Spotting a fellow Ravenclaw, he approached her. "Up to work with me?" he asked her.

Junis turned calmly and looked at her house mate. "Hello Azrael. I'd like that." she said, smiling slightly at him. They strolled through the forest for a while in silence, not hurrying to catch the animals. "I really don't know how to catch them. I don't want the diricalws to get hurt." Junis said softly.
