News and Whispers (Luna) [PG-13]

Raphael sat on one of the sofas of the living room, with his boots on top of the table in the middle of the room separating the sofa from the fireplace. He continuously flicked his wrist moving his wand in the air from one side to another. He had been mastering that sort of wandless magic after Mariya helped him, and didn't have enough.

Luna slipped into the common room after her final class of the day. Wand behind her ear as she walked in, she spotted one of her fellows sitting on the sofa and watched as he made his wand fly from one hand to the other by some kind of magic he didn't speak. Moving closer, she put her hands on the back of one of the chairs and commented, "Practicing to keep your things from the Nargles?"

Raphael at first didn't speak towards the other ravenclaw girl, first year, he knew her from the sorting only though. Once she spoke he furrowed a brow, "Nargals? The hell are those?" he inquired with a quick shrug, letting the wand drop back into his grasp. He had heard that the girl in front of him, Luna he thought was her name, wasn't quite 'sane' as the other kids put it, but still, he didn't want to judge her. He preferred seeing it and only afterwards would he believe those rumors, which could very well be false, although Raphael doubted that, considering she had already used a word he didn't recognize.

Seeing his wand fall into his hand, Luna offered him a small smile, her blue eyes bright and not surprised he didn't know what the creatures were that she mentioned. "They take your things if they can get a hand on them, then hide them from you. But, I don't know if levitating stuff will help much... You're better off with a charm to keep them away," she answered simply, and leaned against the back of the chair, gripping the strap to her bag.

The world's words sounded awful strange, but not completely doubtful. There were creatures Raphael still didn't know about and learning was always good, with wisdom came power, and learning was a way to achieve the first one, "Teach me one then," he replied with a shrug but offered a kind smile. She had done him no harm, no need to harm or disrespect her in return for nothing.

Luna looked puzzled for a moment when he asked her to teach him a charm to keep the Nargles away. But, soon she took a seat in the chair she had been standing behind. Opening her bag she dug around searching for what she needed. Finding the item, she pulled out a Butterbeer cork on a small chain. Holding it out to him, she smiled. "Here. This will keep them away," she said simply, her blue eyes bright with happiness that she could share her knowledge with her housemate. Didn't want those pesky Nargles bothering him....

Holding the cork Raphael at first tried to see if it was enchanted or something like that, inspecting every side of it. But nothing. He found nothing abnormal and he was a good observer himself. He wondered if Luna was just bullshitting him. Looking up at her his brows furrowed, and by looking at them Raph was sure the girl would understand he was confused, "Not bewitched or anything right? Normal cork?" he asked her bemused.

Luna watched as the boy inspected the item she handed him. Surely he was wondering if there was more to it than simple being hat it was, as many often did. At his question, her thoughts were confirmed. Nodding with a smile, she answered him, "There is something about it that they don't like. If you keep it with you or near your things, they will leave you be." When she wasn't wearing her cork around her neck, she often carried it in her pocket or hung it over the items that she didn't want messed with. "You can have that one. I can always make another," she offered.

Raphael looked at the cork over and over once again, but found nothing peculiar about it, but then he decided that, if Nargles as the girl called them existed, they'd know what they disliked. And if a cork was in that list, Raphael'd keep this one. "Well, thanks, I guess...You're Luna right?" he asked as he put the cork away in his pocket.
