New Kid on The Block

Marvolo left the safety of the castle, tightening her robe around her. Her clothing hung loosely from her frame, over the summer she had lost a lot of weight from stress and not eatting. Rabastian refused to speak to her and she couldn't find a moment alone with her sister, she spent the better days alone with her dire wolf. 

Walking out to the lake she sighed and slid to the grassy floor, choosing to lay her head on her arms.

"Oh, hello," Adonis said, his voice cracking into a light giggle from being startled. "How long have you been there?"

Adonis had been lounging in a tree for the last hour or so, enjoying the lack of sunlight brought about by twilight. He was a tad nervous due to the presence of the infamous Marvolo Gaunt, but he supposed she couldn't be all that bad. If anything, she seemed sad right now, rather than malicious, unless of course he was reading her expression entirely wrong. In that case, he could find himself in a rather unwanted situation in a matter of minutes if he didn't speak with care.

Marvolo turned her head to the side "only a moments" she said eyeing the first year "Rift wasn't it? Lawren..no Adonis"

"Yes. Why did you start to say Lawrence?" Adonis cocked his head to the side, displaying his curiosity in the way a naive kitten would. He was far from naive, but the expression was a favorite of his nonetheless.

"I bet a boy by that name in knockturn alley some time ago" she said easily "you reminded me of him for a moment..." she watched him for a moment appraising him "come sit..I don't bite..hard..."

"I'd rather that you didn't bite at all," Adonis commented, nevertheless accepting the invitation. He flopped down on the soft grass after stumbling from the tree. His grey eyes stared up at the tiny dots of nearly the same hue that were appearing at random, winking back at him when he did.

She chuckled "I think I am going to enjoy you company Adonis" she said looking out over the water "you treat me like a person, not many people do that. I appreciate it"

"Um, you're welcome, I suppose. I don't see why people wouldn't though. You're just as much of a person as any one of us."

Adonis could understand completely where she was coming from, although he didn't like to think about it, much less mention it. He'd been in similar situations when he was younger. His peers enjoyed pointing out his differences and mocking them, rather than appreciating them. Adonis supposed that was how he maintained respect for the peculiarities of others as well. Either way, Marvolo didn't seem like an awful person, so the reason behind her mistreatment escaped him anyway.

"Do you think you'll enter the tournament then" she said thinking about the situation that brought her to look for refuge during the feast.

"Most likely not," Adonis chuckled. "It's not my sort of thing. I prefer to think out problems, not actively participate in forcefully solving them. Are you?"

"I don't know" she said with a smile "I do enjoy anything that puts me in a fight to the death but this may end up being over dramatic"

"Popularity and publicity always exaggerate the facts," Adonis agreed. "Do you have any idea what you're going to be up against?"
