Must I Keep Pretending

Sirius opened his eyes and stared at the moon overhead, the clouds shifted like specters flowing quickly with the cold breeze. He laid on the forest floor his back pressed against it as if he was being held down like an invisible force. Even here the weight of the world was on is his shoulders. 

The sound of snapping twigs reached his ears and sat up quickly to find himself face to face with a large black wolf with bright blue eyes. The wolf looked at him peacefully her eyes never leaving his shocked gaze. Raising his hand he caressed her cheek her soft fur soothing his jumping heart. "Marvolo" he said tears glistening in his eyes, he leaned in to hug her and the wolf leaned into the embrace.

He pulled back and gazed at her "Why won't you become a girl…" the wolf looked at him and he sighed heavily laying back down. He felt a pressure on his stomach and realized she had laid down her face resting on his chest. He smiled at her and played with her fur and laid there talking to her, he felt at peace for the first time since she died, Marvolo was with him and that was all that mattered. After hours he sat up and the wolf looked at him her eyes darkening. "Marvolo?" he said slowly noticing the change. 

The wind grew fierce and on the wind he heard "You didn't love me enough to keep me alive" The wolf growled loudly and launched herself at him her large jaws snapping and ripping into the flesh of his stomach.

Sirius woke with a start, his breathing coming in short bursts. The windows rattled on there hinges as the wind tossed them against the sill. As he was about to get from his bed he looked down at his arm and saw he was bleeding from what appeared to be bite marks. His head snapped up as the wind stilled and he heard a loud howl cut through the night.
