Trying to be normal

Azaria walked up to the Quidditch pitch nervously. She had her old broom in her hand, which was shaking a little. She read the rules of Quidditch the previous night and she thought it seemed very interesting. She didn't see any other students around, so her nerves settled a bit. She walked out to the middle of the large field, before realizing that she had no idea how to fly. She had seen it done, but she hadn't taken Flying the previous year, so she didn't have a clue what to do.

Kiara wandered on the pitch, she wasn't entirely sure what she planned on doing there, just wanted to get some fresh air she supposed watch some flying if there was anyone there. To her disappointment she didn't see anyone one in the air, she was about to turn around when she saw a girl on the ground with a broom in her hand. From her robes she would tell the girl was a Ravenclaw and could be anymore than a year above her since she didn't remember her at the sorting. She waited a moment wondering what the girl would do but then got impatient and decided to speak up.

"Hey, are you going for a Fly?" She asked with a merely curious tone as she approached the girl.

Azaria almost jumped out of her shoes when she heard someone speak behind her. She turned around and saw a Hufflepuff girl standing there. She was probably a first year, considering Azaria had never seen her before. She tried to act casual, but her heart was pumping so loud in her ears that she couldn't hear herself. "Sorry, you just startled me," she said as she composed herself. "I don't believe we've met before. Azaria Renner, I'm a second year. I was going to fly, but I haven't done it in a while. I was thinking about trying out for the Quidditch team, though I probably wouldn't make it," she said. Only half of her statement was true, since she was considering playing Quidditch, but she had also never flown before.

Kiara smiles apologetically for scaring her, "Sorry, I tend to have the effect I guess, scared my Step-Mum all the time" she said, though scaring her Step-Mum may not have been completely by accident. " I am Kiara Kaiser, pleasure to meet you" she said holding out her hand.

"I haven't flown before either I am sad to say, not sure I can help you" she said regretfully as she looked at Azaria's broom. "But never know till you give it a go right? What position do you like?" She asked she wanted to join the Hufflepuff team next year as well if she could, it was fun finally talking about Quidditch with someone.

Azaria smiled at the girl. You aren't going to run away again. You are going to make a fried this year, even if it's only one. she thought to herself. She hadn't thought about what position she'd play yet, so she picked one of the top of her head. "Seeker. I'm not great at multi-tasking, so it seems like a good spot for me. And you?"

Kiara grinned and looked sheepish for a moment, "Haven't made up my mind yet, Seeker would awesome I think, but Chaser sounds fun to, being a Beater would be a huge stress valve, and keeper that might be cool to. So.. Guess I will know more when I can actually fly" she said with a chuckle.

"Can't wait for my flying lesson" she added with a excited glint in her eyes.

Azaria was glad that Kiara shared her enthusiasm for Quidditch, and she laughed at her comment about not knowing how to fly. She was happy that she had finally made a friend, and she was surprised at how easy it was. "I probably won't make the team even when I do know how to fly, but I can dream, right?" she said.

Kiara smirked and folded her arms at Azaria, The girl needed more confidence in herself if she was ever going to make the Ravenclaw house team. "Have confidence Aria, ya won't do it with out Confidence. You can dream yeah, but so can anyone right? You have to believe" she said grinning wider extending her arms for emphasis.

She giggled at herself, "Sorry I sound like a moral to a disney movie don't I?"

Azaria listened to what Kiara had to say, and while all of it was true, she did sound a bit preachy. She laughed and said, "Just a little." She loved Disney movies though, and she wished she could be in one of those at moment. She always wanted to be a princess when she was little, but she knew, or she thought, magic wasn't real. She had no idea how wrong she was.

Kiara laughed and shrugged sheepishly "Sorry, hey can't blame me for trying to be inspirational, you haven't gotten on the broom yet. Try something easy, if you feel rusty maybe?" she suggested nodding the broom in her hand. "Hover low to the ground or something?" she added.

" Sure with I could give it a try..." she looked around to see if anyone was watching. "Erm don't think I would be able to would you?" She asked quietly. She knew it was against the rules for first years, but it was so very tempting and with no one else around...Maybe?

Azaria could see the excitement in Kiara's eyes. She knew when the Quidditch teams practiced, since she had studied them all carefully to make sure no one would be around when she flew. It killed her inside to even think of breaking the rules, but she didn't think anyone would catch them. "I suppose you could give it a go." She smiled at held out her broom. "It's not much, but it's all I've got." She was ashamed that she wanted to try out for Quidditch with a broom like hers, but she had heard that some of the teams provide brooms for their players, so she was hoping it wouldn't be and issue.

Kiara blinked in surprise at how easy that was, she was expecting Azaria to at least go first since that was what she came out to do. "Hey it is more than what I got, but are you sure you don't want to give it a try first? That is what you came out to do right?. I originally only came out to watch..." she said with a chuckle looking at the broom. She did want to ride, oh boy did she, but she didn't want to be rude.

Azaria was very nervous about flying, and she could tell Kiara wasn't nearly as afraid as she was. "You're obviously more excited about it than I am, so you can go first. I'll call you if someone is coming, so we won't get in trouble," she said kindly. She wanted to she if Kiara could fly without any lessons before she tried it.

Kiara grinned and excitedly took the old broom stick, "Well alright, Thanks" she had watched the older kids do it before so she had some idea on what to do. Watching and doing were two different things of course..

Kiara mounted the broom and kicked off like she has seen the others do, and squealed as she shot up into the air.

"Whoa!" She exclaimed as she righted herself for a moment, the broom still moving about unsteadily in her inexperienced hands. "Kinda.." she paused when the broom bucked a bit. "Kinda like riding a new horse.. jumpy" she said a bit winded with her heart thumping furiously in her chest.

She tried moving a bit forward, but ended up doing a bit of a barrel roll instead and she whelped un surprise, holding on to the broom upside down. "This is really freaky Aria!" She called down laughing a squealing at the same time trying to right herself again and possibly go lower.. just in case, if she could that is, she dearly hoped otherwise this would be embarrassing.

Some part of her new this was a bad idea, a really bad one, but what was done was done right?

Azaria watched as Kiara mounted the broom and took off. She giggled a little when she tried to make the broom do one thing and it did the opposite. She looked over her shoulder to make sure no one would catch them, which scared her more than anything else. She looked back and Kiara was much higher than she thought she'd go, and Azaria was afraid she had lost control of the broom. It was an old thing, and she didn't know how functional it was.

Kiara gripped the broom handle and concentrated on getting herself back up right, with a grunt and a lot of effort she pulled herself up. "It sure is touchy" she said heaving a huge breath. Alright now she was going to try and go lower, "Be kind..' she muttered and tried to concentrate on going down. She then suddenly did a nose dive down to the ground and screamed, not good and she knew it. She tried to pull up but the old broom was indeed touchy and made her do a backflip and flung her off.

The first year went flying some yards away and sprawled out on the ground while the broom flew off in the other direction and crashed into one of the viewing platforms.

Kiara sat up, but she was definitely in pain, her right ankle has a shooting pain though it, as did her wrist and shoulder. "Ow.. That could have gone better.." she muttered with a frown and a wince she knew then it would take a lot more practice to make it to the quidditch team.

Azaria watched as Kiara flew into the ground and her broom crashed into the viewing stands. It was probably as good as gone. She ran over to Kiara to make sure she was okay. She was holding her wrist, which probably meant she had injured it. Azaria knew a lot about magical medicine, but she wasn't going to try something she hadn't done before. It could make it worse. "I think I'll wait a while before I try. Plus my broom would probably appreciate it," she said, looking over her shoulder at the remains of the old thing. "Are you alright?"

Kiara winced as she sat up, she hurt a lot but she didn't want to admit it yet. "Yeah.. I will be fine, I think, just a bit sore" she said hissing as she tried to move. She bit her lip at her comment about her broom, and looked down at the ground. "Sorry about your broom Aria... Probably a bad idea to do that" she said feeling bad she broke her friend broom. She took a deep breath and tried to pull herself up and she hissed when she tried to put any weight on her ankle.

Azaria helped Kiara get up, though she couldn't walk very well. "Don't worry about it. I'll just get a new one, you know?" she said casually. She didn't mention that she barely had enough money to but the first one. She didn't want Kiara to know about her being an orphan, not yet at least. "You need to get to the hospital wing," she said. "Come on, I'll help you get there."

Kiara bit her lip and leaned on her friend a bit, she really didn't want to go to the hospital wing, first she didn't know what to tell the nurse on how this happened.. She fell down the stairs perhaps?

"Okay.. if they ask what happened tell them I just fell" She groaned as she limped along the path.

"Hey, at the end of the term I owe you a broom okay? Even if I have to suck up to my snooty step-mum. I owe you" she said with a pained smile on her face.

Azaria hadn't thought about a reason to why she got hurt, but it seemed like Kiara had it covered. She was extremely grateful for Kiara's offer, and while she would love to tell her that she didn't have to, Kiara didn't seem like the person to argue with. "But only if I make the team, okay?" she said. She figured she could give herself some motivation. She continued to help Kiara hobble to the hospital wing.
