The Beauty of Autumn (Elvorix) Empty The Beauty of Autumn (Elvorix)

Post by Antares Malfoy Tue Nov 10, 2015 11:40 pm

To Antares, late autumn was among the most beautiful times of the year. The temperature was neither uncomfortably hot or cold, and the leaves turned stunning shades of brown and burnt orange. It was also the last chance to spend time outside without worrying about thick clothing or getting wet from the snow. Winter was almost upon the castle, but for now the blonde was content as she sat on the untarnished, soft grass. The lake was calm, as it often was, and the sky was overcast. She thought that it wouldn’t rain, at least not for a while, so she had brought a book with her. It wasn’t a large one, and it was fiction which was not something that she usually read but was at least enjoying a little. With her attention so devoted to the book that was open in her lap, she didn’t even notice when another person joined her by the lake, even as their footsteps interrupted the peaceful silence.

The Beauty of Autumn (Elvorix) Empty Re: The Beauty of Autumn (Elvorix)

He was making his way back from a gruelling study session back in the library when he had found himself side tracked. For as overused as the library was, it really was one of the best places in the castle to get things done. Time seemed to go by slower in there, and before Elvorix knew it, he’d read over four chapters on Magical Creatures and was almost ready to advance past the part he’d been asked to read. The book itself wasn’t as interesting as it may have seemed when he sat with his leg crossed beneath the other, but something about the library itself made him feel more productive. It was a place of quiet, a place of knowledge – a place for smart people. He vowed to spend more of his time here now that he had more free periods and time on his hands thanks to the wizarding conflicts. The only hard bit was getting here in the first place.

After about an hour and a half, maybe two hours, his eyes had grown bored of the small print text. The time in the library was up for him, he could only fight the boredom so long before he would end up reading pages without actually reading them. He wasn’t too happy to be heading back thanks to the cool autumn wind, but as it stood, he had gotten a lot (in his own terms) done – that was enough for now, and he needed the break. He packed up his books quickly, not forgetting to slip one of the thicker text books back onto the shelf in its rightful spot before leaving.

The weather wasn’t too bad he guessed. The wind wasn't as strong as before, but it was still blowing. It was cold on the boy’s face as he stood, fingers slinking into his pockets quickly. He looked around, spotting groups of students going to and fro from classes or the hall or wherever; Elvorix, strangely at peace with the cold air for once, allowed his eyes to scan upwards, and then towards a line of trees, and he began to walk.

He didn’t know where he was going, only that the more he came away from the castle, the quieter the world got. It was both calming and slightly creepy; especially since the trees around him were hellishly tall and somewhat blotted out the sun above. His eyes were forwards, watching other students who had chosen to come this way for walks. There were less of them here than anywhere, and the deeper onto the grounds of the school he got, the more they seemed to weed themselves out until he felt utterly alone. Every now and then he did throw a glance over his shoulder. He couldn’t put a finger on why exactly.

When he looked forwards again, boot catching on a small rock buried somewhere deep in the ground, a figure had appeared in the not-too-distant distance. They had long hair that waved gently and a nice book to read. For a moment he didn’t recognize who she was, and the loneliness he felt must have aided in catching him off guard. He slowed, blinked, and then sped up. He knew her from somewhere, and that made him feel a little better about being by himself all the way out here in the autumn cold.

Antares instantly looked up when she heard a noise coming from a short way away from her. Her natural instance was to become defensive, as not so many people shared her love of the slight chill in the air, especially so close to the lake. But she could tell, even from a distance, that the person was not an older student and rather seemed close to her own age. They seemed to speed up, and she held her fingers lightly on the pages in front of her to prevent them from flying around so she would lose her place as she watched.

The boy, she quickly realised as he drew closer, was indeed her own age. A Hufflepuff if her memory served her correctly. Unfortunately, a name did not come to mind as she took in his face, but she offered a polite smile none the less. As always, questions began to flood her mind. Where did he stand in the war, was the first and probably the most important, but she always seemed to wonder if people were from her own time or from the time before the curse. Being brought up in such different worlds tended to alter the way people viewed life and so it was more of a curiosity question than a legitimate one. Rather than asking any of them, though,  she instead asked, "are you alright?"

It wasn't the fact that he was outside that had her concerned, but rather the way that he moved rather quickly and was throwing looks behind him as he did. She understood bring cautious in these times, but something seemed to be bothering him. Or perhaps it was simply her overly active imagination. But still, she glanced behind him, where she could not see anybody out in the open. It was why she had chosen this spot. It was quiet, and people seldom ventured so far from the castle outside of warmer days. "Is somebody following you?" she asked, returning her gaze and focus to the boy. Her tone was light, because there was no reason to be too worried. But she was curious, and Antares was often shamefully prone to dramatics.

Elvorix looked out into the distance, the cold air biting at his neck. However, the boy was somewhat used to it due to his Russian heritage. The Badger eyed the figure as he moved closer to it, but he was still unable to put a name to the girl. But, he was able to figure out that she belonged to Ravenclaw house. "Obviously.", he thought. "She's reading a book instead of enjoying the view." The other then proceeded to talk to him. After he heard her question, he then realized how foolish he looked. "Side note, never do that again." he thought.

"I'm alright. Just wanted to make sure no one was following me. There's very.... strange people attending Hogwarts." he answered the other. For once in a long while, being halfblood was scary at Hogwarts. Hell, it was terrifying. Pure-blood supremacists were everywhere, and once he heard that an actual Death Eater was in disguise as a student. After hearing that, Elvorix never looked at his housemates the same way again.

He sat down next to the other, flashing a polite smile. "I'm sorry if I scared you, didn't mean to." he added. The Badger looked out at the lake. The light always seemed to shine on it in the correct way, adding that aesthetic shimmer. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" he asked while looking over at the girl.

Antares raised an eyebrow at the boy’s answer. He was right, of course. There were many strange people who attended, taught and hung around Hogwarts. But surely he knew that there was very good reason to be concerned? He seemed to be both aware of this, but also a little embarrassed by his actions. Antares’ own position at Hogwarts was fairly steady, as she had no reason to fear those deemed the most necessary to be afraid of. However, she knew that there were a number of people who would harm her if given the chance. But the chance was rarely present, and the Ravenclaw herself was easily underestimated- a snobby little girl, at best.

There’s nobody around out here,” she offered, because she knew it for a fact. She could tell when people were about as a natural instinct, but she also knew a spell that would show anybody who was there anyway. “Apart from me, of course,” she added with a short laugh. Perhaps he should be wary of her, but she didn’t intend of mentioning that. It was one of the reasons she did not introduce herself using her last name. If someone needed to know it, they already knew it, but otherwise she found that it more often than not hindered her ability to make friends.

Antares laughed and shook her head as the boy sat down. “You didn’t scare me at all, don’t worry,” she said, “I was mostly concerned for you. As you said: there are a lot of strange people here.” The blonde’s gaze shifted out to the lake for a moment, which was indeed beautiful, and back again. “It always is, I think,” she said, before her brow puckered and she asked, “what’s your name? I can’t for the life of me remember it.
