The First Joke (Conner, R)

Post by Kai Salvatore on Sun Dec 14, 2014 7:42 pm

Kai sat alone in a bar, counting the coins he carried his pocket, trying to see if it was enough for a cold beer. He was tired of this life of worries, and it had only just started. A muggle born with no one to turn to had no future in the wizarding world, and he knew it. Suddenly his head was slammed against the table and Kai fell over, landing roughly on the floor. Looking up a group of five or six men grabbed his galleons and one towered above him, "We're taking this, hope you don't mind kiddo," the man said before grabbing Kai by his throat, and slamming a knife into his stomach.

It had been a long day of training, and Conner was beat. Not only had he had that bloody egg clue to riddle out, which he did thanks to a heads up from Cedric and Harry, he had also been worried about his sight. Thankfully, he healed just fine with only very minor scarring along the bottom most edges of both eyes. Regardless, being stuck in bed, blind, was enough to drive him bonkers. He didn't like sitting still for long, and the week he was forced to do so was enough for a long time. So, as soo as he had a clean bill of health from Lady Lupin, he dove right back into his training and daily routines.

Figuring he was due for a drink after his long run that wrapped up his training for the day, Conner nipped into one of the pubs he had taken a liking to since coming to England. The barkeep, tipped his head at the young man who had started being a regular a few times a week and poured him both a shot of a rare whiskey along with a tall glass of cold water, the two things Conner always ordered. "Thank you, Sir-" Conner began, lifting the shot to his lips, but stopped before throwing the shot back when he heard the sound of a tussle. Looking over, he spotted a young man being ruffled up over a few coins. Slamming the glass onto the bar when he saw the blade sink into his stomach, making it shatter and the liquor spill onto the floor, Conner was at his side in less then a heartbeat. Just before he reached him, Conner flicked his wrist, sending powerful Knock-back Jinxes towards those closest to the young man. Ready to catch him, Conner growled, "I really hope this wasn't over a few coins...."

One of the men landed roughly on his back crashing through a table however the others were able to deflect the spell, and all turned to Conner whom caught Kai just before he fell to the floor. Grabbing the hilt of the knife, Kai pulled it out throwing it aside as he coughed blood, before all the men hurled gusts of wind at the boys trying to hurl them over the counter.

"I've got you," Conner said to the man as he secured a hold on him. He had hoped more of his magic would have connected with the surrounding men, but it was what it was. Thinking quickly as the man in his arms spat a mouthful of blood onto the floor, Conner muttered a spell as he held his hand over the wound in his torso. A soft blue light glowed in his hand and connected to the wound, healing it as best as could be done given the circumstances. As a strong gust of wind blasted against them, Conner took a more secure stance, keeping his footing and support of the man for a few moments. Before he could muster up a shield to combat all of the wind coming from the remaining men, his footing gave way, sending him and the one he was supporting towards the bar. With a loud CRACK, Conner took the full blow of the wooden bar against his back as they both flew over it, protecting the wounded male. "Can you stand and fight back?" he whispered loudly to him through gritted teeth against the pain the blow caused. The spell he worked would have taken effect by now, not helaing him to perfection, but enough to make a difference.

As he was hurled over the counter Kai strangely felt different, he felt better, like the wounds were gone and he had not hit anything that had harmed him. Smirking he cracked his back however cringed when some of the pain of the wound on his stomach returned to him. Standing up, he nodded at the boy, looking around and finding the weapons the barkeep kept beneath the counter. Handing Conner a sword, Kai picked up a musket, and aimed it at the men having already been prepared by the barkeep.

Getting to his feet, Conner gave his back a good pop before taking the sword the boy offered him. He was glad his spell had worked as best as it could so that they could both handle the situation at hand. Seeing him take aim at the men, Conner picked a target out of those that remained before saying, "I'm Raleigh, Conner Raleigh. Figured I'd let you know since we will be facing these assholes together." Glancing at the man for a moment before looking back at the men, he waited for him to make the first move before taking action himself.

Noting what the boy said Kai didn't answer, instead focused solely on aiming, as one of the men came at him, he pulled the trigger, shooting the man's head off. Swinging the musket around he hopped over the counter and threw it at the head of another of the assailants gouging his eye out, before another one pulled one of his legs, making him slip and hurled him at the wall.

Following the young man after his shot that ended on life of the group of men that had given him a hard time, Conner hopped over the counter and landed just in front of another of the men. Dodging a punch, he brought his elbow up and cracked the man in the temple, hard. Seeing his eyes roll into the back of his head, Conner didn't doubt that when he hit the floor, he wasn't going to be getting up anytime soon. And, when he did, he's have a nice headache awaiting him. Just as he was getting ready to move onto the next opponent, Conner was knocked to the ground, a dagger to his throat. "Ye should'a minded your business, boy..." the man growled at him. "And you shouldn't take what doesn't belong to you," Conner sneered back, before forcibly shoving the man's elbow up until he heard the sickening pop of his shoulder slipping out of place. With ease he took the dagger and slammed it through the man's already injured shoulder, pinning him to the floor. Getting to his feet, Conner looked to see what was the next move from him or the man he was fighting with.

Four men were left alive, and two were down knocked out, leaving two more to fight. Returning to his feet Kai slowly dragged his legs being tired from the beatings, before one of the men grabbed him placing him in a bear hug, turning his back to Conner...

Looking towards where the young man should have landed, Conner growled as he saw one of the two remaining man grab a hold of him. This has got to stop... Drawing the dagger he kept sheathed in his boot out of habit gained from his attending Wolfclaw, Conner rushed the man who had a hold of the one he had already saved at least once today. Thrusting the dagger forward, if he landed a solid hit, this could be all over...

The man was quite aware that Conner was not quiet in one place, and was not foolish enough to just stand and wait for his doom. Instead he turned around bringing Kai along with him, just as Conner thrust the dagger forwards. "Gaah..." Kai spat some blood out towards Conner's chest as the dagger sank into his chest. From behind the man pushed Kai further towards Conner, so the dagger cut deeper into his heart, before ripping the boy from it and hurling him away. Smirking he speared Conner, as he did apparated them away from there...

The next few moments happened so quickly that Conner, even with all his training in both the ring and as a Templar, could not avoid what happened. Even though he tried to slow his blade, he knew before the young man came in contact with it that his target was now the one he had saved. Planting his feet to bring himself to a stop and putting his hand out to try and hold him back as best as he could, Conner still felt the dagger sink into his chest. When he spat blood out onto Conner's chest, he gripped his arm, trying with all his strength to keep him from moving. Feeling the one holding the boy shove him to cause the dagger to enter all the further before he could pull the blade free, Conner managed to look into his face, his dark eyes already telling the young man that he was sorry. As the boy was flung away, his chest already soaked from the fatal wound he had delivered, Conner sent a hard blast of air towards the one who had moved him into the line of fire, planning to get to the boy's side to offer whatever kind of help he could. The gust missed its mark, however, and soon Conner was knocked off his feet and vanished with a POP!
