Burning Question (Harry) Empty Burning Question (Harry)

Post by Guest Thu Nov 13, 2014 12:46 am

The air was cold with the promise of coming winter, and already, the ground was covered in a thin layer of snow. Snowflakes lightly fell all around the grounds, including at the Black Lake. Sitting on a blanket and surrounded by a circle of melted snow, Luna sat looking out over the slightly frozen water. She had made a small area beneath her warm to ward off the chill that would likely flow into her petite body from sitting for long. With her knees pulled up to her chest, she rested her chin on top of them. It was peaceful here, even without the lapping of the water. Smiling to herself, Luna didn't pay much attention to the sound of footsteps approaching from behind her.

Harry walked slowly still healing from his meeting with the dragon a few weeks before. He had been warned that the yule ball was coming up and being a champion, he needed to get a date. He didn't exactly want to attend anyway, he had enough on his mind, but since he was a champion he had to do what was right. Of course his first option was Artemis however he didn't exactly know how to approach after they broke up. He then thought of Hermione but backed off immediately, he wasn't going to ask his best friend to the ball, what kind of image would that pass, and he didn't want Hermione to be pestered by the likes of Rita Skeeter. Sighing he stopped and stared at the lake for a while...

"Hello, Harry Potter," Luna chimed softly, when the form of her friend appeared in her peripheral vision. Turning her head to look up at him, she offered a warm smile as she took note that he seemed to be healing and holding up pretty well following the facing of his dragon. "You seem to have a fair amount on your mind. Want to sit?" she offered, patting the blanket next to her. There was plenty of room since she had opted for a larger blanket as opposed to the smaller one she often brought out. Something just told her she needed it...

Harry seemingly snapped out of a trance as he was brought from his thoughts by the sound of a familiar voice. Looking down Harry smiled, "Oh, hi Luna," he greeted his friend and nodded at her question shrugging as he sat beside her, leaning in and kissing her cheek softly. "Tournament's been a bit rough..." he admitted.

Luna's cheeks warmed slightly as Harry sat and kissed her. Smiling she playfully nudged his shoulder with hers and said, "I imagine. But... Harry...you were brilliant with your dragon." Luna really wasn't one for these tournaments, but she wanted to support her school. Then, when Harry's name was selected, she wanted to cheer for him, as well. "Is that what's got your mind all foggy? Just the tournament?" she asked, her bright eyes shifting from him to the still water before them. She could only imagine what he was going through, having to face all these trials when he was years younger then any of the other champions. Deep down, it worried her that he was in danger, but there was nothing that could be done. Harry had always been kind to her, and the thought that something ill would befall him was something that bothered her greatly. Be that as it may, she kept it hidden away...

Nodding to the girl Harry smiled warmly when Luna said he did well in the task. Facing a dragon wasn't an easy task but Harry did it and that was all people needed to look at, his victory, "Thank you Luna," he thanked his friend. "Well... that and the rumors and everything's that's been happening," he said, referring to the rumor regarding the death eater movement, that it was stirring up once again, that it was being reborn, and they had proof that rumor was somewhat true, considering the final of the quidditch match was ruined by the attack of death eaters.

Smiling brightly at Harry's thanks, her smile faded slightly when he spoke of more then the tournament weighing on his mind so heavily. Dropping her eyes to the space between them, she nodded slightly. "I don't know how much of rumors they are. But, something is moving in the shadows. Something...bad..." Luna said. Her father spoke of such things before the year began, and keeping up on his articles of The Quibbler, Luna knew of these rumors and what they meant.

Sighing at the thought of the death eaters trying to take over Harry shook his head and remembered that their headmaster along with the order would not let it happen. "They're not gonna touch you Luna... Not you nor anyone else...Dumbledore and the others won't let them," he assured his friend.

A soft smile toyed with her mouth as Luna looked up at her friend. He spoke with a conviction that was more then reassurance to her. Nodding, she replied, "I believe you, Harry." And she did... Dumbledore and the Order weren't about to let anything befall them. They had to trust that... Pushing the dark thoughts from her mind, Luna's face lit up as it had been before. Playfully nudging his shoulder, Luna asked, "Other then those things, how are you?" It had been a while since they had seen one another, and, really, Luna had missed talking with him.

At her question Harry sighed slightly as the yule ball returned to his mind, all of Dellen's words running through his brain, Get a pair, don't be late, blah blah blah, that usual grandmother stuff, "Well the ball is coming up... and I as a champion have to attend, even though I'd rather face the dragon all over again then having to ask around for a pair," he admitted his eyes widening showing he was shocked he had actually said that.

Harry's comment about the ball made Luna smile, and his look after speaking the comment only made her giggle. "I would think facing a dragon is worse then asking for someone to go with you, Harry. Surely, any girl would be jumping at the chance to go with a champion to the ball," Luna said simply. A rare, soft pink crept into her cheeks when she mentally admitted that she could be counted amoung those girls, and just as quickly as it was there, the pink vanished. "Or is it just the having to ask that is the problem?" Luna asked with a grin.

Harry smiled nervously at the thought of how he actually did prefer fighting the dragon over picking a date for the ball. "I dunno that it is Luna..." he shrugged with a chuckle, "I think so. I mean, have you been asked?" he responded with his own question, his eyes stirring with curiosity.

Shrugging at his answer, Luna looked back out over the lake. Tucking her blonde hair behind her ear, she crossed her arms over her knees and rested her chin on her arms. Harry's question made her smile softly as she shook her head and turned it to look at him. "I haven't. But, that's ok," she mused. Luna knew what many students thought about her, and really, she didn't mind or care. She was planning to go to the ball without a date if need be, or not at all... It all really depended on what she felt like doing when the day arrived. Then again, it would be nice to be asked, she had to admit.

"Well.." Harry stutered as he scratched the back of his head and took a deep breath, "Will you be my pair Luna?" Harry asked nervously a small smile on his face.

Luna paused when Harry asked if she would go with him to the ball. The question alone made her quite...happy. Smiling tenderly, she nodded. "I'd be happy to be your pair, Harry," Luna answered softly.
