Trust and Candlelight (Nikolas) (PG-13)

Post by Guest on Tue Nov 11, 2014 2:28 pm

Tatia sat on the edge of the stone fountan in the courtyard where the note from Nikolas said to meet him for the dinner she had agreed to join him for only a few days earilier. She was the picture of calm, the perfect pureblood lady, just like her father had formed her to be, but, inside, she was nearly quaking with anticipation and nerves. Since that moment she met Nikolas and heard his words that really struck something inside her, Tatia hadn't been able to stop thinking about him. It seemed he invaded ever free thought she had, even causing her to daydream about him. Looking up at the lightly falling snow that brought the reminder that winter was fast approaching, she smiled slightly. Why was he in nearly every thought she had? Why did she find herself thinking of him so often? Why, when his note arrived, did she feel so...happy? It was just a piece of parchment with his handwriting noting where he would meet her...

Letting out a gentle sigh, her breath formed a light steam as it crystalized in the chilled air. I must be crazy... Dropping her bright eyes to the note he had sent her that rested in her black gloved hands, Tatia let her mind wander as she waited...

"If I was even more selfcentered, than I alredy am, I would think, that I must occupy most of your mind at this very moment. Judging by the way you look at that simple note," Nikolas chuckled. He was leaning against the wall of one of the buildings for couple of minutes now, silently watching her with smirk full of darkness across his lips, his eyes covered by the shadow of his dark hood. "Hello, my lady, you look stunning," he greeted her afterwards as he took the hood down, taking few steps closer to her, issing her hand with flirty smile, like a true gentleman.

Jumping as the familiar voice of the one she was meeting here reached her ears, Tatia chuckled nervously as her eyes found his form leaning against the wall of one of the nearby buildings. "It's not that... It's just..." she muttered, looking back at the note before slipping it inside her coat pocket. Tatia hadn't received many notes like this one. So, in it's own way, it was special to her. That and, Nikolas was on her mind a fair bit since that day. When Nikolas approached her, taking down his hood, and greeted her, she wondered if she would have felt a tingle where his lips touched her hand, like her cheek, if she hadn't had her gloves on. His smile brought a small one of her own to her features before she replied softly, "Good day to you, sir. Thank you." That feeling of things being alright began to wash over her, just like it had in the Great Hall, along with a soft fluttering in the pit of her stomach. "Where are we going?" Tatia asked after a brief moment of getting lost in his eyes as he looked at her. Was it her imagination or was he even more handsome then the last time she saw him?

Her question made his smile in the most charming way for him possible. "For a walk," he stated simply. "I like this time of the year. Fresh snow, everything is so bright, yet cold and sometimes more dangerous, than all the monsters in the dark," he spoke as he began to walk, looking at her to follow him. "Britain can be very charming in winter. Almost like Czechia. Only more... innocent, I would say," he continued.

His smile, if possible, made Tatia feel like she was about to melt. The chill in the air seemed to simply vanish. As Nikolas began to walk, she got up and followed him, tucking her hands in her pockets. "I like the winter. It's like everything gets a fresh start..." she said, letting her voice trail off a bit. Most everything... Looking around as the snow began to collect slightly on the trees that surrounded them, Tatia could see what he saw. "Innocent or masked?" she asked, glancing at him and truly smiling, her eyes twinkling in the brightness around them. She didn't often let this smile shine through, but for some reason, in this moment, it did.

"Both. In Czechia, you know it's masked. In here, you don't. It can be, but it doesn't have to. Maybe that's why the biggest criminals of Czechia are from here. This country offers maybe less shadows, but darker ones," Nik replied. "What do you think, Tatia? About all that. Mudbloods, Czechia, war. You want people to think you are perfect pureblood princess, but I am not stupid, I can see it in your eyes. What do you believe in?" he asked her, his tone serious, yet the way he spoke, warm and gentle, who knew the real Nik would hardly recognize him. Nikolas was far from being that nice person in his real himself.

Tatia had never thought about it the way that Nikolas was putting it. Czechia did harbor a lot of dark witches and wizards, both from there and here. Britain is generally seen as a light hub, a safe place while Czechia is the opposite. Smiling as she thought about his, his questions about her and her thoughts made her smile fade. Looking at him, worry flooded her features. Her father had groomed and fashioned her to be the picture of what a pureblood was, and here, in only their second meeting, Nikolas was seeing something in her that blew her mask to pieces. How? How did he do it? What did her eyes tell him that he could see her so clearly? Slowing her steps for only a moment, she picked them back up as she looked down the path ahead of them, thinking hard of just how she should answer these questions. That feeling of being safe with this boy, while still there, was crumbling slightly. She was afraid of what the truth of what she thought and felt would bring from him. But, why did she care?! She knew... Tatia was afraid of what his reaction would be, afraid of what the consequences of her telling him would be, afraid of her father...should he find out...

Drawing a low breath, Tatia decided to give trusting him a try. Surely the worst that could happen was nothing worse then she had already faced. "You want the truth?" she asked. "What you see is true. To me, it... It doesn't matter where you come from. The fact that you are here is what matters... But, it is wrong to think such things..." Tatia told him, in a hushed timid voice. All she could do now was wait... Wait for his reaction and hope. Hope for what, she didn't know.

He could see fear mixtured with hope in her eyes. She was so naive, so trusting. It made him even more sure, that she still didn't see enough. Laughing slightly, he looked at her. "And here I was worried what kind of terrible traitor you are," he said. "Don't worry, Tatia. Most of the young purebloods think like you. If they have their own brain, that is. You can't possibly hate somebody, who never did anything to you. Well, you can, but than, you would be just a sheep. Following instructions. And if you were such person, I don't think you would ever be worth my attention," he told her pretty much honestly. "It's clever to play your cards, knowing that the truth can hurt you. But you don't have to play those cards with me. We are maybe different in our opinions in this, but where would be the fun if we weren't?" he smiled at her. He challenged her. He was getting her on his side. And she challenged him. In her own way. He decided he won't let her go. Not easily anyway.

As he spoke, Tatia waited for the stern, hard reaction she had grown to expect when she spoke her mind and just what she thought of all this blood status mania. But...it never came. Instead, Nikolas told her that he was actually...pleased that she had her own thoughts and didn't just follow the 'norm' because that was what was expected of her as a Pureblood. He liked that about her... A soft smile flirted with her lips as he continued, telling her that there was no need for her to hide what she thought when it came to him, that it was alright for her to be herself. She had never been told that before. All her life, Tatia was told that she needed to be a certain way or else face the consequences. Period. Now, right here, right now, there was a boy that said her being her was alright. "I guess... I guess you're right... Being different only makes things more interesting. Right?" she asked, a warmth creeping into her words as she spoke. Sighing, she decided to say something that she never thought she'd say to anyone. "I will try to not play my cards for you, Nikolas... It will be hard, but... I will try," Tatia told him, offering a truly warm smile that rarely ever got to see the light of day. It was the smile of the girl that wanted so much to be herself and was basking in the new feelings of being cared about by someone. Deep inside, without her knowing, her spirit decided that it didn't want to let this feeling go, and it would do whatever it took to keep it.

Wicked smile crossed Nik's lips as he heard her. She was signing herself to devil himself, even if she had no idea just yet. But that made it all a bit easier. He was determined to take this chance. And when the time comes, she will see, what she should see. And she will be as far from being black sheep of the Gamp family, as possible. "I am honored by this," he finally replied to her, being charming and flirty as always. "So, why don't you tell me something about yourself. All I know is that you are charming, beautiful and far from what you seem to be. But what is your life like, when you are not at school? What do you like? What do you hate?" he asked her, genuinely curious.

His kind words about both how he felt about her trying to simply be herself and what he thought of her, brought a warm flush to Tatia's cheeks as she smiled. When he asked about her, she thought just what she did like and not like. "Well... I love books, any book, really. When I was little, I found that they offer a nice escape from things by taking you to other worlds and places," she answered happily as she remembered all the books that filled the bookshelves at her home. Even the library at Wolfclaw and here offered her all sorts of different things to read. "Art, too. You get to make your own story when you look at a piece or make a piece yourself," she added. "As for dislikes... I don't care for high places, fish, or excessive amounts of busy work from professors," Tatia mused. As she thought about it, there really wasn't a lot that she didn't like. Thinking about what her life was like when she wasn't at school, her smile faded as she glanced from Nikolas to the path before them. "At home... It's just home. Only my father and myself... Nothing overly special there..." she said simply. In reality, Tatia enjoyed being anywhere other then home, more often then not. When she was home, she was forced to be as the world wished her to be, well, her father, really. Away from home, she had a little more freedom to be as she wanted to be.

"What about you, Nikolas? The only things I know about you are we are schoolmates, you are kind...handsome...and a gentleman that looks out for others," she asked, redirecting the question back to him. Her stomach seemed to do a small flip as her heart skipped lightly at her admission of just what she thought of this boy.

He smiled slightly as he listened to her. She seemed so innocent in every single thing. The way she spoke, the way she trusted him so easily, things she liked. He had to admit, they weren't so different. He loved books too. But he seeked sources of dark powers in them. He found art very inspiring and storytelling. But the most, when it was bloody. And by the look at her face when she spoke about her father, they both had complicated relationships with the only member of their family they knew.

At her remark about him being kind handsome gentleman, he had to laugh slightly. "I must say, I'm flattered you see me this way," he added afterwards, his charming smile back on, not laughing anymore. "Well, I enjoy... magic. Mostly. My first few years on this World, I spent with muggle foster family. One of those stupid policies, that children considered magicaly dangerous go to the hands of muggles, in hope they grow out loving and caring and all that crap. Let's be honest on that one, it almost never work. Anyway, when my dad got out of Azkaban, I moved in with him. Since than, magic is pretty much my hobby number one," he said, not going into details of his life too much. There will be time for that. "As for me being the way you see me, I am just trying to avoid conflict. As much as I wanted to go to Wolfclaw, I never realized challenge it would be. I mean, Karkaroff name is on the black list for too many people around. Starting with the Gaunts. So, I am just keeping low profile and watching my back. I don't like being stabbed there, it hurts," he added with another charming smile. "Otherwise, I think our interrest are very similar, Tatia."

Feeling a small wash of heat fill her cheeks, Tatia lightly bit her bottom lip. She couldn't help but see Nikolas this way. After all, he had proven he was like that in the first few moments after she met him. As he told her of his childhood, Tatia couldn't help but sympathize with him. They both had it rough as children, it seemed. She knew about the policy that Nikolas had been subject to and it saddened her to think that he was forced to live that way during his early years. But, hearing that the story had a happy ending made her smile. "I don't like conflict either... I guess we kind of share that, really. Our names kind of dictate who we are even without us doing anything. Just as your name, Karkaroff, is notable, so is Gamp..." she said with a small sigh, "Sometimes I wish... I wish that people could just be as they wish to be and people would be alright with it, you know. Not let the name we carry tell people, and us, how we should be." What she said was noble, and betrayed what she felt inside about how she was expected to live.

Glancing at Nikolas, she smiled and nodded. "Getting stabbed anywhere hurts, but in the back, by people that claim to be allies, hurts the worst. I have to agree, Nikolas. I never thought I would find someone that shared many of the same interests as me, same or similar or whatever. It's nice to have someone to share that with," Tatia mused, smiling tenderly at him. She still couldn't get over the feeling he gave her. It was so new, but like a drug that she didn't ever want to give up. As they walked, she unconsciously walked closer to him, her arm almost brushing against his as they moved.

She amused him. Mostly with her innocence. Whatever her dad did to make sure she at least pretended to be who she never was, he still kept her somehow... pure. In other way than only with blood. And as amusing as it was to Nik, in the same time it was what made her stand out of the tainted crowd of Wolfclaw monsters. He could hardly find someone with that innocent look she had. Not at his school anyway. "I think it depends on people you choose to hang out with. Who you are I mean. Your family cares, who you are. They want you to be like them. That supposedly good side cares. Because they live in prejudice. They often misjudge by the name and won't really give an honest chance. But when you seek people who don't care about your name, but your actions, then you can be whoever you want. It'shard to earn it. But unlike in other cases, it's not impossible," he said to her, thinking about his own way.

"I'm glad to share these things with you, Tatia. You are smart, you are beautiful and you are original. I may not be perfect gentleman. Or good guy in general. But that won't really stop me from trying to get you. Actually quite opposite," he smirked, mischief in his eyes when he spoke.

Nikolas' words struck a cord with Tatia as she listened. What he said was true... His father did only focus on what she should be, and not what she could be. So did most everyone that heard her name, too. Gamp meant that she was a Pureblood Princess, a Lady of the highest degree simply because her bloodline wasn't tainted by nonmagical blood. Nikolas was really the first one to not really care, to see her for who she was and not care. "Kind of like you," she mused softly, dropping her eyes to the path under their feet. "You want the real me," Tatia added, glancing up, and, in a way, standing a little taller, letting the inner her shine for a moment.

Glancing at him, Tatia smiled brightly, her real smile and said tenderly, "Thank you. You don't need to be perfect... No one is..." His last words about trying to get her, made Tatia's heart skip slightly. What did he mean? The mischief in his eyes only made the small flicker of warmth at her center burn a little brighter as she thought about it. "You are hunting me, then?" she ventured in a tease and a soft chuckle as the village came into view before them.

At her question, he smirked darkly. "That depends... do you want me to?" he asked her as if she had a choice. But of course she didn't. She probably didn't really realize it just yet. He wondered if she will try to run once she does. But he had no intention to let Tatia go. The way she spoke, the way she smiled and blushed slightly when he gave her a compliment. That glimpse of panic in her eyes every time he exposed piece of her she didn't want him to see and relief, when he reacted the way she never would expect him to. Nik would never admit to himself, that he was madly in love with this girl. And he was getting more and more possessive over her every day.

At his question, Tatia paused. Looking at him, her features seemed to take on a sense of wonder, wonder with a touch of confusion. Bringing her focus back to the path as hey neared Hogsmeade, Tatia thought about what he had asked her. Did she want to be hunted, so to speak, by him? He did make her feel like she had never felt before. In a way, until now, she never noticed that somewhere inside her, she longed to feel the way he was making her feel: loved. "I think....I would...." Tatia answered softly after several quiet moments. Bringing her dark eyes to the boy beside her, they smiled brighter then the smile that lingered on her lips. If she knew how to listen to what different feelings inside meat, she would realize that her heart alreay belonged to Nikolas. Everything about him and how he treated her... Even without asking, she was already his.
